News from our Principal

Dear Families,

As we near the end of Term 1, we want to share some important updates and highlights.

Firstly, a friendly reminder that Monday, March 25th, is the deadline for Prep enrolments for the upcoming academic year. If you have a child eligible for Prep in 2025 and haven't yet completed the enrolment process, please ensure all necessary paperwork is submitted by this date.

Next, Thursday, March 28 marks the final day of Term 1. School will conclude at 12:00 pm on this day, and the canteen will be closed. Additionally, we will be supporting the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal with a gold coin donation via CDFPay. Your contributions will make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in need, and we appreciate your generosity.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mel Langtry and Clara Privitera for their dedication in accompanying our senior School Captains, Leaders, and SRC members to recent events. Their guidance and support have been invaluable, and we're certain our students found the experiences worthwhile.

Furthermore, we'd like to thank Clara Privitera and Grace Grech for accompanying our School Captains, Faith Leaders, and Sport Captains to St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne for Mass. We're delighted that our school's participation was recognised on MACS social media.

Our recent information session on the Resilience Project was well-attended by many parents, and we extend our appreciation to Mel Langtry for organising this informative evening. It was a fantastic opportunity for families to learn more about resilience building strategies and how you can support your children's emotional well-being.

Throughout this week, we have continued to showcase our school to prospective families through our 2025 school tours.

We're grateful to all the families who have attended our Learning Showcases, as your presence enriches the learning experiences for our children.

This Friday, Kate Mackintosh will be taking our Year 6 students to the Australian Grand Prix. This promises to be an incredible experience for our senior students, filled with learning opportunities and fun.

I would like to also inform the STM community that Rita Totino has taken personal leave. For the remainder of Term 1 Melanie Langtry will be Acting Deputy Principal.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your ongoing support,

David Hurn

Youth Leadership Conference

On 12/3/2024 on a bright and sunny Tuesday morning. The grade 6 leaders and captains along with the grade 5 leaders, met Miss Mel and Mrs Privitera at Merlynston Station to Flinders Street in the city. From there we went to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and were enlightened and enriched with the powerful knowledge and experiences of some exponentially influential speakers.

As we saw the train pull into the station we were filled with excitement. At first it was full but it gradually got even fuller. The train ride was really enjoyable because most of us haven't been on a train in ages.  When we arrived at Flinders Street we were able to experience the beautiful city of Melbourne, we then had a leisurely walk to reach the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.  We were all so surprised as we expected it to be a small conference however, we were in an amphitheatre with 1800  other leaders from different schools.

Our favourite speaker of the day was Skye who explained to us that her and her 3 siblings lived in a tent for a number of years and made the most of their living situation by focusing on the positives. Other students really enjoyed the footballer Trent Dennis-Lane, an ex AFL player who was told he wouldn’t make it in AFL but he defeated the odds and played over 100 AFL games.

We also really enjoyed engaging with other students and completing activities with other students from other schools. We had a great day out!

Time: Two session times will be offered to parents.

You will be able to register your attendance via an Operoo form early next term.

The Waterfall Adventure

The cool breeze washes over Lina's face as she walks over to the green moss near the splashy waterfall. Just by herself, she lays down on the soft grass and watches from the peak of the waterfall. The water trickles down and covers all around the smooth, mossy rocks. Tiny drops of water splash on her body, but Lina stays still and lets the drops cool her down.

My Happy Place

The beautiful buildings amaze me with a nice breeze that brushes over me. Amazing artefacts decaying over the years. Awesome scenery around me. I feel calm and amazed at the same time. I love the way it looks like an outdoor museum. This is my happy place.

Grazie e Auguri

As we are closing in on the end of term 1, we would like to congratulate all the studenti and maestre for their enthusiasm and efforts when taking on this new approach to learning languages. It is incredibile to witness just how far everyone has come in such a short time.

Next week, we will run our revision and assessment of this term's units. These take place as a simple 1:1 conference with each child during class time. Next term we look forward to commencing our new unit which begins the first 2 weeks with a focus on numbers.

We hope the parents and carers are also learning some italiano at home along with the studenti.

Grazie e Buona Pasqua.
