  Prayer

Lord, I pray that you will clothe my children with your joy, and may your joy be their strength (Nehemiah 8:10).

As they start a new school year, may they be filled with joy as they learn and discover new things about the amazing world you have created.

 Amen

News from our Principal

Dear Families,

Thank you to the families who attended our Parent Teacher Chats last week. It was lovely to see so many of our families meeting their child's home teacher and to share information about them. This was an opportune time to come to the school to get to know your child’s teacher and to tell them information about your child that you think they need to know.

Before School Supervision:

Please be aware that students are only supervised by staff from 8:30am. It is important that students are in the following areas before school begins. For safety reasons there are no ball games permitted during this time.

Prep - 2 students need to be on the Junior Green

Year 3 - 4 students need to be on the Senior Green

Years 5 - 6 need to be on the Senior Green

School commences at 8.50am. Anyone arriving after 9:00am will be required to go to the office to collect a late pass.

Riding Bikes To and From School:

It is encouraged for students to ride their bikes to and from school each day. Please ensure that your child is wearing a helmet when riding. It is also important that your child walks their bike in whilst on the school premises as this ensures the safety of all. Please remind your children to dismount from their bikes as soon as they' arrive at the school gates.

School Photos:

This week your children came home with their personalised on-line order form for their school photos.

Please take note of the information that is included in your individual flyer, in particular the 'Job Number' and 'Unique ID' to be able to place an on-line order.

Sibling photos must be pre- ordered online prior to 8.00am on photography day.

Students need to be dressed in full summer uniform (maroon jumpers not required).

Hair to be neat and swept off face.

(If your child has PE on photography day, they may bring their runners to change into after their photo is taken).

Helpful information can be found at https://help.schoolpix.com.au/  alternatively please don't hesitate to contact the office if you have further questions.

Prep Family Faith Night 6pm-7pm (in classroom):
On Tuesday March 5 we will be having out Prep Family Faith Night. This will be held in the Prep classrooms. Information has been sent to the Prep families regarding this night. If you have any questions about the night please contact Clara Privitera - cprivitera@stmhadfield.catholic.edu.au. A huge thank you to Clara and the Year Prep team for organising this night.

School Advisory Council:
On Wednesday February 7 I sent an invitation out to the community inviting them to join the School Advisory Council. I am pleased to announce that the following people will make up our School Advisory Council in 2024:

Fr. Giang  Tran - Custodian of Mission
David Hurn - Principal
Rita Totino - Deputy Principal
Anthony Grima - Chair
Rose Caruso - member
Danny Ward - member
Kumbi Nzenza - member
Michael Tucci - member
Josie Tyrrell - Member
Renata Kegel - Member

Purpose of the School Advisory Council:
The School Advisory Council is not the governing body of the school, and as such does not have a decision-making authority due to it not having a legal identity. While a vital forum for parent and community voice, it is not a forum for individual parent advocacy or special interest representation and does not become involved in the day-to-day management of the school. It does not take on the role of a parent and friends group, a fundraising forum or fete organising committee.

The following are some ways the School Advisory Council supports the school and the Principal:

Articulating and enacting the school’s vision and mission
Promoting the school’s Catholic ethos and culture
Promoting faith formation and development
Implementing school policies as required
Giving advice to the Principal on issues such as enrolments, school improvement plans and enrolment trends
Engaging in discussion with the Principal about the annual school budget and other financial matters
Giving advice to the Principal about the school Master Plan
Capital resource planning and maintenance support to the Principal

2025 Enrolments:
We have our Enrolment tours happening here at school on the following dates and times:

Prep 2025 enrolments are due on Monday March 25.

Thank you for your ongoing support

David Hurn

English

Spelling Update

Did you know…

80% of the English language comes from Latin and Greek roots? So if we learn about where words come from, it can help us to develop our spelling knowledge.

On Monday, our teachers engaged in a full day of professional learning focused on spelling. We explored the intricacies of English as a Morphophonemic language. This refers to the fact that words are based on both their sound and meaning, for example, the word ‘bicycle’ has the prefix ‘bi’ meaning ‘two’ and the base word ‘cycle’' which has Greek spelling origins meaning 'circle' or 'wheel'. Understanding the history and meaning of words plays an important role in spelling them accurately.

Author's Corner

This week we celebrate a range of writing pieces from our amazing authors.

Prepositional Poem

In the kitchen.

Near the flour.

Inside the milk.

Beside the eggs.

Outside the pantry.

Beneath the water cup.

Between the butter.

Around the sugar.

Throughout the salt.

The ants are stealing the cookies.

By Roma (year 3)

Innovation piece from the mentor text Girl on Wire.

Deluge clouds swell and the wire gradually rocks as the girl heaves her foot.

She traps and holds her breath and creeps onwards, her dress swishing around her legs.

We are blown away by the buzz of Italian speaking we can hear all around us.

This week we will be completing unit one before some revision, self assessment and goal setting next week. We have noticed the students are growing in confidence using the following language both in and outside the classroom:

These phrases and words can be used in various contexts and we encourage you to practise them daily.
