St. Catherine of Alexandria

St. Catherine's Life

St. Catherine of Alexandria was born around 287. She was born in Alexandria Egypt. When she was young she got a very good education and she was thought to be born a princess. When she was around 14 she saw a vision of Mary and Jesus. This vision made St. Catherine want to become Christian. At the time an emperor named Maxentius started killing Christians. St Catherine tried to talk to Maxentius but he ordered her to be tortured. However the torture didn't stop her from praying and worshiping God. When she was in the prison about 200 people came to visit her. Because St. Catherine wouldn't leave her faith, Maxentius proposed to her. She said no because she wanted to give her body to Jesus. The Emperor ordered her to go on a breaking wheel. A breaking wheel was a form of torture in which a person was tied to the wheel breaking their bones. When St. Catherine saw the wheel she touched it and the wheel shattered. When Maxentius saw that he decide to have her beheaded.
