Guardian Angel

This stained glass window was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest F. Kuster. Mr. Kuster was the first owner of the place which is now known as Sykes, he originally bought the property in 1915 and it sold groceries there so the store was called E. F. Kuster Groceries. He only ran the business for about 10 years and then he sold it to Ira Black.

What are Angels? Angels are pure spirit created by God. Angels are first heard of in the Old Testament when God creates them. Some of the most famous angels are the Archangels Raphael, Gabriel, and Michael. Michael was the angel who cast Lucifer, the devil, out of heaven and into hell. Gabriel was the messenger of God who told Mary she was to give birth to Jesus, the Son of God. Raphael can be found in the book of Tobit and his name means healer. The Angel in this window is a Guardian Angel. The Guardian Angels are a group of angels that were sent by God to help us, protect us, and guide us everyday. Each person has a Guardian Angel that was assigned to us by God. This window perfectly shows an how your Guardian Angel is always protecting you.

The window is similar to the original paintings from the Renaissance to the Early 1900s. The one on the left was done by a German postcard maker in 1900. This window does not show any sign of the child being in any danger, but the angels in both photos seem to be very calm and caring. The angel in this window has a cross on their chest to show that they’re a messenger of God. The child is also carrying lilies which symbolize purity of the soul, as the child is young and pure.
