PE

We had the brilliant opportunity to take part in some free tennis sessions held at the Tennis Centre in Chesterfield. The children took part in some brilliant activities including throwing and catching building up to some mini rallies with their partner. The children had so much fun! Shout out to Charlie for making this happen!

This term, we have been learning all about gymnastics and the fundamentals to creating a fun routine including jumps and landings. We discussed how important control is for each move and that we need to have a strong core to maintain balance and to hold specific positions. We learnt the pike position, tuck position, straddle position, dish shape and arch shape. The children put these into their own sequence, focusing on moving from one position to the other. We then spoke about mirroring our partner and how effective this can be for a performance. Finally, we looked at safely jumping off equipment and landing safely by bending our knees. Children had the opportunity to travel in lots of different ways and jump off the equipment using a variety of positions (e.g tuck, pike, straddle etc). The children were so brave and gave everything a go! Even if they weren't sure to start with, they all correctly jumped off different levelled equipment and did it all with a smile on their faces :)

Lesson 3

In today's lesson, we added 7 more moves to our Cheer routine, making it longer and more difficult to remember but the children smashed it! We rehearsed it altogether and then we went into small groups and the children practised the routines to the music!

Lesson 1 & 2

This term, we are exploring Cheerleading as part of our dance topic. So far, we have talked about our core strength and to help us with this, we have been holding a 'dish' position. We have been learning a cheer routine that has various different positions. We have talked about how important it is that we have straight arms and we hold each position for 8 seconds. We have been playing Firework by Katy Perry in the background and the children have been LOVING it!

Our topic this term is Netball and we have been learning the four different passes, the footwork rule, shooting and moving into space. The children were absolutely amazing at all of these skills and blew me away with their awesome communication, teamwork and sportsmanship! We ended our topic with some mini-games which they loved!
