Term 3
As part of our BFG topic this term, we looked at writing a setting description based on Sophie seeing the BFG for the first time. The children worked extremely hard on creating a creepy atmosphere and used some excellent adjectives to describe what Sophie could see. We also focused on writing a character description based on a giant in Giant's Country. We read all about the Bloodbottler and based our giant's description around him. Again, the children used some wonderful adjectives to describe the giant and included some lovely synonyms. The children worked immensely hard on both pieces of writing so I gave them the option to write one of them up neat as I wanted to put them all on display! They look absolutely gorgeous outside our classroom and I can't wait for the children to see their work on display for everyone to see!
We also thought it would be a fun idea to make our own dream jars! The children got very creative and decorated their jars with lots of whacky resources. They then filled them with more whacky resources and we added water and oil to them. They look beautiful and I hope they bring lots of good dreams!
Term 1
In today's lesson, we have been learning what direct speech is and how to punctuate it properly. Our new book, the Stone Age Boy, includes two characters: the Boy and a girl called Om. The children acted out these parts, pretending to be each character and they absolutely loved it! They were given speech bubbles for each character but they had to decide on how they might say it and what action accompanied the speech. They then wrote the conversation into their books and punctuated it accurately. I was so impressed with their work and their wonderful uses of adverbs!
The children have been learning all about Skara Brae in our English topic linked to our History unit of the Stone Age. The children went on a fact hunt around the classroom and had to write as many of them down in the time given. They were super sensible whilst moving around the classroom and their work looks extremely neat, even though some children were writing in odd places!
