Maths

Our new unit in Maths is exploring coins and using coins in everyday experiences. Today we grouped the coins by colour and shape and learnt what each coin was.

We have been using bead strings this week to support us in adding and subtracting a one digit number to a two digit number. The children have also been applying strategies which they have learnt in previous lessons such as regrouping and make ten to support them.

We have started our unit on measure this week. The children have been comparing lengths and heights using cubes. They have used language such as shorter, taller and longer.

In maths this week we have been working with numbers to 50. We have been looking at the amount of tens and ones in each number and comparing amounts by showing which is the greatest value and the least value.

In maths this week we have been looking at the stragety 'make 10'. We have been using bead strings to help us with these equations in addition and subtraction.

In our unit 7 Maths, we are looking at related facts and known facts in equations. The children have done great today picking two numbers, working out the whole amount and then creating addition and subtraction equations from these.

We have been looking at direction and movement this week. We have been looking at turning anti clockwise, clockwise, turning left and right, turning half a turn, full turn and a quarter. Why don't you practise these at home!

We have been comparing numbers to see whether it is a greater number or a smaller number. We then ordered three out of sequence numbers with our partners.

We have been comparing numbers using cubes and number lines.

This week we are looking at representing numbers to 20. Today, we have looked at making an amount but keeping the 10's in the same coloured tower so we knew we just needed to count on.

We have been sorting 2D shapes in to groups. Can you describe any of the shapes? How many sides does it have? How could you sort the shapes?

We have been learning about 3D shapes so far this week! Can any of the children describe any 3D shapes to you? How many vertices do they have? How many faces and edges? The children have been working in Kagan teams to describe and guess the shapes and then classified them into groups.

In maths this term we are looking at numbers to 10. We are exploring doubling, halving, one more and one less and comparing numbers within 10. We need to ensure that children are fully secure within these numbers and can recognise number bonds to 10 to support them when working with bigger numbers.

We have been looking at subtracting by partitioning amounts into parts using a part part whole.  The children have done so well with subtracting this week! Well done everyone.

We have been using part part wholes to work out addition equations this week. We have been practicing holding a number in our heads and counting on too.
