Sports

Despite our small size, St Mary’s is one of the top rugby schools in Leinster, with many past pupils capped at levels up to and including the Lions.

Cricket is growing strongly. Basketball, badminton, golf, athletics, and tennis are offered in their seasons.

We have two aims in our sports programme. The first is to put out competitive teams at provincial level in our chosen sports. The second is to ensure every boy can play sport for his school.

The College’s sports grounds are in Kenilworth Square, a short distance from the main campus in Rathmines.

Activities

Scouting has been in St Mary’s for generations. The Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland was founded by a past pupil. There are presently cubs, two scout troups, and a venture scout group cathering for different ages.

Since our first school play in 1898, drama has been prominent. The annual Senior School musical, in collaboration with St Louis' College, is a highlight of the first term.

We are invested in debating to ensure boys are trained for competitive debating at both junior and senior level. A dedicated group of debaters receive professional coaching.
