Trip Leader

Professor Carla Bossard

Carla Bossard is a professor in the Biology department. She teaches various courses in environmental Biology and Environmental and Earth Sciences, California Flora and Communities, and Conservation Biology.

In 2015 she was selected as professor of the year at Saint Mary’s and gave a talk regarding, the value of travel Jan Terms to Saint Mary’s students. She believes Mark Twain was right: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness”. Carla has observed that Jan Term travel courses allow our students to examine their own values, develop aspects of themselves the did not know they had, become aware of the beauty of places they did not know existed, and learn to value people very different from themselves.
