Week 9: October 20-23, 2026
This Week's Proclamation:
We receive the grace of the Holy Spirit through the sacraments.
We will begin our week by continuing to learn about the virtue of Responsibility (part of Justice).
This week, we will continue our exploration of the sacraments by diving into Confirmation.
We will start by praying with the account of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-4, using the method "Lectio Divina". Next, we will hear how Confirmation gives us the strength to live faithfully as Christians. In this sacrament, the bishop lays his hands upon us and prays for God's blessings. This is similar to the way leaders in Jewish history would lay their hands upon someone who was selected for a task, as a sign of being chosen and of God's blessing upon the person to help him or her carry out their task. We are also anointed with the holy oil "chrism" as a symbol of the gift of the Holy Spirit. This anointing is a seal and a consecration: we are marked as belonging to God!
Speaking of gifts... when the Holy Spirit comes, He brings more gifts! The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are:
Wisdom: to see as God sees, with love
Understanding: to know what is good and right
Counsel: to help others know what is good and right
Fortitude: to have the strength to do what is right
Piety: to love God and being with Him (particularly in prayer)
Knowledge: to know the truth and to share it with others
Fear of the Lord: to desire God, because He is good and amazing (Note: this "fear" isn't the servile fear of punishment; it is filial fear, where one cherishes the relationship and has a fear of disappointing or grieving the person they love)
Virtue of the Week:
*We'll learn about this virtue this week and next week.
Responsibility: fulfilling one's just duties; accepting the consequences of one's words and actions, intentional and unintentional
Looks like: Complete your tasks
Sounds like: "I have finished my homework."

Homework + Projects:
Your Religion Homework is to spend time with God, your Friend and Father (and the best Teacher!) every week. Keep track of how you spent time with God on your Prayer Log.
*October Prayer Logs are due on Monday, November 2. They will be graded for completion, not for what or how much is prayed. Logs turned in late will lose 1 point for every day it is late.
**The Hallow Bingo Card is a bonus activity (aka optional). Students who return their bingo card on November 2 will receive and All Saint's Day surprise. (Late bingo cards will not be eligible for the surprise.)
Days we meet:
3C = Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
3F = Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Year at a Glance:
Trimester 1 (August - November)
Kerygma: the kernel of our faith (God created. Sin destroyed. Jesus saves. We respond.)
Creation and The Fall: God created the world out of love and it is good! We are made in God's image and likeness. God promises to send us a Savior.
Sacraments: Grace is God's life in me. God gave us the Sacraments as a way to received His grace. Through grace and virtue, we can live like Jesus. In Baptism, we receive new life. In Confirmation, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit.
The Liturgy: In the Eucharist, we unite ourselves with Jesus to become like Him. At Mass, Jesus' Paschal Mystery is made present to us. Worship at Mass draws us into communion with God.
Prayer: God created me for a special friendship with Him. Prayer is talking to and listening to God as our Father and friend.
Saints: God has a plan for us to live with Him forever in heaven.
Vocation: God calls me to a special mission - I can be a priest, a religious sister (or brother, nun, monk), or get married.
