Week 9: October 20-23, 2026
This Week's Proclamation:
Jesus forgives and heals us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
We will begin our week by continuing to learn about the virtue of Responsibility (part of Justice).
This week, we begin our direct preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation! We've been setting the foundation by exploring Creation, The Fall, having a relationship with God (prayer), and the first sacrament we receive (Baptism - which cleanses us of Original Sin, restores God's life in us, and marks us as a child of God). Now we will be learning about the sacrament which cleanses us from all of the sins we commit after Baptism.
On Tuesday, we will hear the parable of the Found Sheep, presented according to the method of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
On Wednesday, we will hear how Jesus gave the apostles the power to forgive sins by reading John 20:21-23 (and referring to Matthew 16:19 and 18:18). We will see how that authority has been passed down from the Apostles to their successors, our Bishops and Priests.
On Thursday, we will pray with the parable of the Prodigal Son (we will pray using the method "Lectio Divina"). Just like the father in the story forgave the son and welcomed him home, God the Father will always forgive us and welcome us back into relationship with Him!
Virtue of the Week:
*We'll learn about this virtue this week and next week.
Responsibility: fulfilling one's just duties; accepting the consequences of one's words and actions, intentional and unintentional
Looks like: Complete your tasks
Sounds like: "I have finished my homework."
*A daughter virtue of the Cardinal Virtue: Justice
Homework + Projects:
Your Religion Homework is to spend time with God, your Friend and Father (and the best Teacher!) every week. Keep track of how you spent time with God on your Prayer Log.
*October Prayer Logs are due on Monday, November 2. They will be graded for completion, not for what or how much is prayed. Logs turned in late will lose 1 point for every day it is late.
**The Hallow Bingo Card is a bonus activity (aka optional). Students who return their bingo card on November 2 will receive and All Saint's Day surprise. (Late bingo cards will not be eligible for the surprise.)
Days we meet:
2D = Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
2S = Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Year at a Glance:
Trimester 1 (August - November)
Kerygma: the kernel of our faith (God created. Sin destroyed. Jesus saves. We respond.)
Creation and The Fall: God created the world out of love and it is good! We are made in God's image and likeness. God promises to send us a Savior.
Prayer: God created me for a special friendship with Him. Prayer is talking to and listening to God as our Father and friend.
Sacraments: Grace is God's life in me. God gave us the Sacraments as a way to receive His grace. Through grace and virtue, we can live like Jesus.
Preparation for First Reconciliation: Sin is saying "no" to loving God, others, any myself. Jesus forgives and heals us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Saints: God has a plan for us to live with Him forever in heaven.
Vocation: God calls me to a special mission - I can be a priest, a religious sister (or brother, nun, monk), or get married.

**By May, 2nd grade will have the following prayers memorized: Grace before meals, Prayer to my Guardian Angel, The Rosary (know that each deciade consists of 1 Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, 1 Glory Be; plus, be able to recite each of these prayers independently)
