Christ's Commandment

We looked ahead to the 5th Sunday of Easter in this week's worship, celebrating Christ's commandment of love. We thought about the fact that there are all sorts of rules in our lives (including our two school rules: we respect and we follow). I even tried to introduce a new, third, rule: we clean the teachers' shoes...but it wasn't well received!

We explored the idea that there are rules we must follow. Failure to comply will often lead to consequences. However, Christ's commandment is different. It is an invitation: we can choose to engage, we can commit our lives in service, we can make a difference in the world. Our decision to follow this commandment is what sets us apart as his disciples.

Laying down the law in Year 1

Year 1 have been learning about old and new forms of transport. Last week, Year 1 were lucky enough to have a visit from two Police cars. The police officers spoke about the different vehicles they use to help keep us safe. Afterwards, we explored the cars and even got to sit in the driver's seat!

Year 3 explore Wisley

On Tuesday Year 3 enjoyed a wonderful day at RHS Garden Wisley. During the day the children rose to the challenge of finding how many natural objects they could fit into a small white box. They used their observation skills to collect petals, stones, leaves, parts of pine cones, feathers, tiny twigs etc. Whilst we were exploring the gardens, children were keen to sit and sketch fascinating plants. Part of the day included a workshop led by RHS Wisley staff which encouraged the children to discuss and discover parts of the plant we eat. The children enthusiastically planted Rainbow Chard seeds which everyone excitedly took home at the end of day.

Time to learn in Year 2

Year 2 have been busy learning to tell the time to 5 minutes on an analogue clock. A tricky concept, especially in our very digital world! To help them to understand it a little more, the children made their own clocks.

All about the UK in Year 4

The children in Year 4 have been looking at the different regions of the UK. The first task was to complete a puzzle of the different regions. They had to look closely at the vocabulary such as South East and East Midlands. The children then continued their learning by creating graphs based on certain data collected about the regions. Looks at these remarkable examples...

Nursery Poets

A number of the nursery children recently took part in a poetry writing competition. With the help of the nursery team, each child wrote a poem about their favourite things. Alexandru's poem was said to be "exceptional" and he was awarded a certificate for, 'Talent for Writing.' Some of the poem's have been chosen to be published in a poetry book! Well done Alexandru and all those children that took part.

C - 5th Easter - Witness

Playing by the rules

In Witness Worship this week, Miss FitzGerald introduced us to the amazing impact of Lawrence Dallaglio (both on and off the rugby pitch). We learnt that Lawrence was an excellent captain because he understood the importance of playing by the rules. After retiring from the professional game, he established his rugby foundation: Rugby Works. He now teaches young people, from all walks of life and backgrounds, how respecting the rules of the game can lead you to a happier, healthier experience of life in general.

Following your calling in Year 6

This week in RE we've been thinking about modern day witnesses and wondering what inspired them to do their good work and to give up so much in order to serve God and spread the Good News. We looked particularly at Father Balashowry who is a Director of the Don Bosco Youth Centre and who was moved by the letter Paul wrote to the Ephesians (Ephesians 2:10) and inspired by the Holy Spirit. We also thought about the charity Mission Together and explored the goals of the charity and who works with them to make them happen. There was clear evidence in every Year 6 classroom that the children appreciated the role that a person's faith can play in the path that their lives take. Well done Year 6!

High drama in Year 5!

Year 5 had an exciting morning yesterday when actors from the Guildford Shakespeare Company came to run a workshop on Romeo and Juliet - the play we have been studying in English. Through lots of acting, discussion and debates, pupils further explored characterisation and the relationships between characters. The love and fighting scenes were of particular excitement!

Even more drama in Year 4!

Year 4 has been enjoying an introduction to Shakespeare this week. The children have had fun learning about Shakespeare's life and times, playfully insulting their teachers and each other using Shakespearean language ("You hideous, iron-witted hedge-pig!") and are now exploring the characters and plot of one of his more accessible plays, The Tempest. We have played human Top Trumps to understand the relationships between the characters and here we are, acting out key scenes from the play.

Congratulations Year 6!

After a fabulous week in which they showed courage, determination, self control and resilience, Year 6 let their hair down at their Post SATS Party! We are incredibly proud of them all.

The Evil Pea is back...again!

This week the Evil Pea has taken over our classroom and he has been causing havoc! He turned tables upside down, put masking tape everywhere, took away our bug spaces and replaced the with Evil Pea spaces! Finally he caused a massive mess on the playground!

All of this commotion got the children motivated and they created wanted posters, traps and even stories about the pea!

Witness Awards

Congratulations to this week's Witness Award winners. All of these children have shown how Jesus' command, to love one another, can make our school a much happier place to be. Thank you all for your service and commitment. God bless you!

1D show us who rules!

We enjoyed a beautiful class worship this morning from St David's Class. They helped us to understand that our world works much better when we acknowledge and follow the rules. They also explained how God has taught his people all about his special rules and expectations throughout the stories in the Bible. We enjoy a super cool rap about the importance of rules to keep us living happily and healthily together. Awesome job 1D!
