Dear Parents:
Thank you for partnering with St. Joseph Public Schools and supporting our technology initiatives. We are excited to be able to provide 1:1 computing devices for all students during the 2020-21 school year. Elementary student devices have all been distributed. High school students in need of a device should check one out from the media center. Please familiarize yourself with the students guidelines posted in the student section of this website, as well as the parent responsibilities below regarding district provided technology. Thank you again for your support and patience as we move to a full 1:1 environment in SJPS.
Please enforce student laptop guidelines at home and help students adhere to the guidelines shared in the student sections of this website.
District provided laptops are for use by the student, not other family members.
Laptops are configured to connect via a wireless Internet connection.
The school district will not be providing home Internet access.
Providing home Internet access will be the choice of the parent; however, students will need regular access to the Internet to complete school assignments.
All Internet activity on school devices will automatically be run through the school filter.
Options for affordable Internet access is available for parents. Please email support@sjschools.org if you need assistance with Internet access.
Laptops should be used by the student in a location that can be supervised by the parent; unsupervised use is discouraged, e.g. use in child’s bedroom.
Parents should monitor student’s time online. Internet sites will be filtered as they are at school; however, parents should still be aware of what the student is doing online.
Parents are encouraged to be involved with student’s laptop use and communicate any concerns to the classroom teacher.
Parents agree to immediately report any damage to, or loss of, a laptop to the school. Parents may not take the laptop to an outside source for repair.
Parents must return laptop to SJPS in the event of the student changing schools.
