At Allan's we build in regular opportunities for whole-school Makerspace Weeks. These are an opportunity for all learners to demonstrate creative thinking and develop their 5Cs through developing solutions to a real life problems. We use our Design Thinking Toolkits to guide the creative process and are always so proud of our innovations!
When we think of Makerspace we think about using our imagination, collaborating, using our critical thinking and all the 5Cs. Essentially, Makerspace is about creating stuff. When we are doing Makerspace you go to your creative self. You can build whatever you want, you have free reign to use what you want as long as you stay in the design brief. The tasks are usually important and connected to real life situations - We have worked on projects to help homeless people, clean dirty water, as well as promoting our Rights and Anti Bullying. We could change the world with just one idea! We look forward to Makerspace because we know that the process is more important than a shiny polished model. Sometimes when we make things, some people think that it has to be done in a certain way, but in Makerspace, we keep evaluating and improving our designs again and again. Something that works really well is that we can give each other different jobs, based on our strengths, which means everybody is included and valued. We love that in Makerspace we get to have fun and let our imagination run free.
