Hi! I'm Mrs. Janquart and I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science! I love science and I love teaching science. This is my ninth year teaching at St. Ignatius Catholic School. I completed my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in the spring of 2024.
I was raised in a small town in Eastern Idaho and moved to Boise to attend Boise State University. After I met my husband, I decided to stay in this beautiful valley. I have three kids, one attending BSU, one attending Bishop Kelly, and one attending St. Ignatius. I am passionate about plants and love being outdoors. I love reading and am always looking for that next great series. And if you can't tell from my virtual classrooms, I am a Harry Potter fan.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that learning should be engaging and fun. I want my students to look forward to coming to my class anticipating what the day will bring. I love learning and want my excitement for science to fuel the students drive to succeed. Inspiring my students to have a passion for learning and continually seek to reach the magis. I believe that God should be a part of every aspect of our lives and is an integral part of education. There are five elements I use to establish this learning environment in my classroom: (1) inquiry, exploration, and creativity, (2) diversified teaching strategies, (3) assessment and reaffirmation of objectives, (4) respectfulness and positive attitudes, (5) reinforcing Catholic beliefs and God’s words.
My class is centered around inquiry, exploration, and creativity. My lesson plans are structured to be engaging, lending to the natural curiosity of every child. Science is in every part of our world and my students explore the relationships of the material presented in lessons to everyday life. Students are encouraged to share their ideas and question the why, what, and how. My students use their own experiences to build on the information they are presented in class.
Every student is unique and so is the way they learn and understand new concepts. I believe that lessons should be diversified, captivating students to enhance understanding of the objectives. I use multiple teaching strategies in my classroom. I love incorporating experiments, demonstrations, and games into lessons to keep my students engaged and actively learning. Questioning during a lesson helps me to assess the student’s comprehension and see what others strategies may be used to enhance their understanding of the lesson. I use regular assessments with my students to formulate individualized plans for success. At the end of the school year, I want my students to have obtained knowledge that will follow them through their entire life.
I believe that being respectful and positive are critical to success in learning. I expect myself and my students to come to class with a positive attitude. I have the expectation that my students maintain a high degree of respectfulness for themselves, their peers, the school, and the community.
I believe that God should be a prominent part of a student’s education. I am a role model for my students, demonstrating to them the greatness of God and how he is all around us. I will show students how I care for them and how they should care for others as God would. I want to help my students explore the talents that God has given them so that they may better serve the world and God, making a difference in the lives of others.
My classroom is a safe environment where children are loved and encouraged to be themselves through positive reinforcement and consistent discipline. During the school year, I not only nurture my students minds but also help them develop a high self-esteem. I believe that leading by example is the best way to establish a passion for learning and I work diligently to show my students that learning is a lifelong process.
