St Vincent De Paul Letter Drop

By Lucy Curran

On Wednesday the 29th of November I helped out with the St Vincent De Paul Christmas Letter Drop. I hugely enjoyed this experience and am looking forward to hearing how much money we helped to raise.

Upon arrival we were split into smaller groups of 2-4 people, each of which were assigned an area of houses and an adult member of St Vincent De Paul to accompany them. We then spent the next hour and a half delivering letters to each house allocated to us before returning back to our original meeting point. Here we were given chocolate and thanked the St Vincent De Paul members who had guided us before heading back to school and continuing on with our day.

This letter drop has raised thousands of euro for admirable causes in the past, and I cannot wait to hear that this year has been just as successful. I am proud to be able to say I helped with such a worthwhile cause.

For St Vincent De Paul, some TY students went to Deansgrange on Wednesday. We split into groups of 3/4 and with our SVP adult, delivered several hundred letters between each group. This is for the SVP Christmas Appeal, in which we are asking as many people as possible to donate.

We delivered 2,500 envelopes in total to homes in the area. We hope to get donations to help families in crisis. It was chilly but when we did meet some of the homeowners, they were more than happy to accept the envelope we had for them. It is during Christmas that many families struggle the most, so bumpy doing this we can help them just a little bit to get them on their feet.
