Yay! You're in sixth grade!
We're excited to introduce you to a new team member in 6th grade! The 6th grade team that you know and love is adding a new member!
Mrs. Denton will be joining Mrs. Doenges and Ms. Brennecke as part of our dream team. Mrs. Denton will lead 6C and teach Math and Science, while Ms. Brennecke (6B) will take on a new role as the 6th-grade religion teacher and continue with social studies. This is a great use of Ms. B's talents as she is well-versed and educated in Catholic education and Theology of the Body (and her knowledge of social studies!). Mrs. Doenges (6D) will stay an ELA guru.
Never fear! Ms. Brennecke will still offer after-school math tutoring as needed for students who want a little more practice out of the classroom. We're excited for our new member to our 6th grade gaggle--I mean, team-- and can't wait for you to meet her at Supply Drop Off on August 17th!
Can you believe that you are 6th graders now? It's back to school time!
Middle school is a time to start getting ready for high school and working on your responsibility. We can't wait to get started!
Snack time is given between 9:20-9:40 in the morning. As our lunch time is at 11:45, this is the best time for our students to have a boost from food.
Snack options:
Dairy Options (yogurt, gogurts, cheese, etc)
Cracker/chip Options—things like Goldfish crackers, Pirate’s Booty, popcorn, Cheezits, chips (not Takis, please), Ritz crackers, pretzels, etc
Bars (protein, granola, cereal, etc)
Veggies (any raw veggies are generally fine)
Fruit (generally all are acceptable, including applesauce packages)
Dry cereal (no milk with it)
We do not have spoons or silverware for the kids, so it is best if it can be eaten by hand.
Please DO NOT let your child bring candy or anything with peanut butter or nuts (not allowed in classrooms due to not be able to separate for snack). Flavored drinks are also not allowed. We allow students to carry around their water bottles for water, so they stay hydrated during the day.
Benefits of a healthy snack:
Provides a boost of energy for students and help brain function
Helps curb appetites, so they are not overeating at their next meal
Provides extra nutrients when choosing healthy snack options
Our lunch time is very quick, so a snack in the morning can help them not be so hungry at lunch.
Students are expected to clean up after their snack. We are noticing that students are leaving trash around the classroom. If this continues, we may not be able to continue snack time. We have reviewed the expectations of cleaning up after themselves with the students.
Where do you line up in the morning and how do you get out of the building? Watch this video!
This is last year's video, but as of now, I believe we are following the same dismissal procedures.
If your child is absent, we do ask that you call the office/email and alert them of the child's absence. It is also helpful to email the teachers, so we know.
In order to get their work, a student should first check all their Google Classrooms for any work that might be posted. Then the student should also check their email in case a teacher has emailed them with specific directions.
Lastly, the student can contact a reliable friend in 6th grade. This student could answer any questions about the work. If a student emails the teacher after school hours, we do try to get back to the student, but with families and outside responsibilities, we cannot always say that we can respond immediately.
Many of our resources can be accessed online. Your child should know which ones he/she can get at home without getting a paper book from school.
