20th Sept 2012- The opening of English Cafe
The last few Thursday afternoons after school, a small group of students have been meeting to organize the EA Drama production for next year. We have decided to perform a modernized version of Journey to the West, only this time we have renamed the story “Monkey Business”. The students have helped me to organize the basic plot of the production which will be about the Monkey King leading his friends on a quest to help the CEO of his computer business find brand new software which will make his business more profitable and successful. There will be roles for a fairly large cast, including Angry Birds characters, business people, a dangerous lady villain character as well as Monkey and his friends. We hope to perform this play in 2013.
This term, students have also been shown the New Zealand film, Whale Rider, which introduced students to Maori culture and traditions. This was an interesting film for many students who had their first glimpse of beautiful NZ scenery and the myths and legends that are part of the traditions of many New Zealand Maori tribes.
The English Corner has also been cleaned up and I have reorganized much of it to make it much more accessible for students to go in and have access to the resources and games that were previously stored in cupboards. I am in the English corner at least twice a week for lunchtimes, playing films, as well as playing many games of chess and Uno with may enthusiastic form one students.
