3. Learning beyond the classrooms: Explore world festivals on English Speaking Thursdays
The long-awaited Halloween Party and Haunted House
STFA SWC was not safe from ghosts and monsters during this year’s Halloween season. Students played spooky games and won scary-good prizes during our Halloween-themed English Speaking Thursday. Those who earned enough chops during the event were given a free ticket (if they dared) to the Haunted House of Horrors organized by the Student Union, Zero.
The English Club and Student Union joined hands to create an atmosphere of spookiness in the school hall.
Our English teachers, the English Club and SU committee members dress up as monsters and put on ghoulish makeup.
Students share their thrills and chills.
Merry Christmas at STFA SWC
The English Department and English Club held an event called "English Speaking Thursday" on December 14th (Thursday), centered around the theme of Christmas. The English teachers and students designed and produced English games related to Christmas. Following their participation in the games, students were awarded stamps and stationery items. A total of 230 students from all levels of the school took part in this engaging event.

Wishing You a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous Year of the Dragon
On February 22nd, STFA SWC students were treated to another English Speaking Thursday, centered on the theme of Chinese New Year! Students tested their luck on a series of digital and classic English games in hopes of earning prizes of chocolate, candy, and stationery, and improving their English grades by earning extra credit from speaking with their English teachers about their hopes for the new year! Turnout was big, and students had a ball!

4. Life-wide Learning experience - A Trip to Tai Kwun
Members of the English Club were taken on a private tour of Tai Kwun, the renovated space that was once Hong Kong's police headquarters, prison, and magistracy court. Throughout the tour, Tai Kwun's knowledgeable tour guides taught our students the ins and outs of daily life for prisoners, introduced some famous people associated with the station, and sat us in the courtroom where famous court cases were tried in years past.
"My favorite part was the visitor centre of Tai Kwun. They introduced the revitalization of the Central Police Station, and the development of the Central Police Compound."
-Fong Wang Chi
"The view of the buildings was so beautiful. I took a lot of photos. I hope I can visit again with my family or friends."
-Veanna Chow
"My favourite part was going inside the jail. The tour guide was friendly and she introduced Tai Kwun in detail."
-Semecha Poon

5. Hong Kong Museum of Art Tour
Members of the English Club were treated to a tour of two separate art exhibits in December. The tour began with "A Tale of Three Cities", an exhibit curated by The Hong Kong Museum of Art, Macau Museum, and Guang Dong Museum. The exhibit teaches about, and shows examples of, the beautiful silk textiles from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the trade routes that sent them all over the world.
Following that, students were treated to "Tetian and the Venetian Renaissance from the Uffizi". This exhibit contains world-famous oil paintings from 1500's Italy, from painters such as Titian, Giorgione, Tintoretto, and Veronese.
The English Club teachers and students line up for a group photo before beginning their private, guided tour of the day's first exhibit.
Many lovely, intricate silk textiles were on display at the A Tale of Three Cities exhibit.

"The most beautiful thing I saw was the painting of Victoria Harbour. The oil painting portrays accurately how Victoria Harbour came into being more than a century ago!"
-Hermione, 4B
"The most interesting fact I learned was that China was the birthplace of silk and was the first country to produce textiles made from silkworm cocoons."
-Chloe, 4C
"My favorite part of this trip was the free time when we could walk around the museum and enjoy the art and its background."
-Gabe, 4A

9. Dramatic Encounters: A Three-Kingdoms-inspired Journey through English Theatre
On March 7th, members of the English Club traveled to Yuen Long Theatre, where they were treated to a performance by the talented actors of The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTEC). For the sixth consecutive year, STFA Seaward Woo College attended the "From Page to Stage" production of STRATEGY, a play inspired by The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The Wu and Shu Dynasties attempted to overthrow the powerful Cao Cao in this classic tale from ancient Chinese history. Teacher leaders of the English Club prepared students for the story with an informational meeting before the event, and students offered their opinions of the show in the educational material provided.
"I think the lesson of the story is that strategy is a bit more important than power."
-Lam Tsz Ching, Gabe (F.4A)
"I felt excited because the scenes were fantastic and the script was well-made. That raised my curiosity."
-Ng Tyra (F.4A)
"It was my first time going to a theatre to watch a drama. All of the characters were eye-catching. This drama really opened my eyes today."

Students in forms 3 and 4 wrote quotes of their own and created original posters as part of the STFA SWC Annual Quote Competition. Champions, runners-up, and awards of merit were chosen from the many entries, with winning posters put on display for the whole school to admire.
Hurray to the champions and runners-up!
