Identifying an issue and making an effort to resolve it is crucial for engineers.
Producing a practical and ethical solution to a problem that improves quality of life of others.
Understanding why a problem occurs and what factors need to be fixed in order to be successful.
The need to collect more data and information from sports players using computer and electrical engineering and equipment to better ensure fairness of referee calls as well as more accurate coaching assessment.
The objective of Contaxt is to make calls on the field more accurate. Whether that be miscalls by the refs or foul play by the players. We will accomplish this by creating a tool that sends data to facilitate fairness of referee officiating and more accurate coaching assessment.
It is difficult for referees to get everything right. Especially when they are running around at the same time as strong and fast athletes. Any number of scenarios can occur, and refs need something that will differentiate a foul tackle that could cause harm to others from a fair challenge from an opponent. Our target customers are leagues that want to implement our sensors to their game. Other potential customers are players, coaches, trainers, etc. that want to improve their game.
A series of sensors, either on a sock or shinguard, that will send impact force data to a smartphone app. The app will then determine how safe the tackle is and give feedback depending on the situation. On the field, refs would be able to hear this data through their earpieces and see it on their watch. The ref would then use their judgment based on the data to make the call. Data would be available after for statistics recordings.
A fully operable app and sensor that can be easily used by refs on the soccer field. It will prevent injuries and make games more fair. Other potential outcomes are athletes, trainers and coaches using the sensor to train themselves, other players, or inform club staff. Overall, soccer will hopefully improve as a sport altogether.
The estimated cost for developing and launching the app will be relatively low cost as it will be simple and require more time than money. The sensors will require more money and the final product may cost around $100 for a pair of socks.
