Chinese Visa

If you are not a Chinese national, you will need to apply for a Chinese student visa for the fall and spring semesters in Shanghai. We will send step-by step instructions in June on how to apply for a Chinese student visa.

Please note that students from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau do not need to apply for a Chinese student visa.  

• Students from Taiwan must travel to Shanghai using the Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents (MTP, 台湾居民来往大陆通行证 or 台胞证).

• Students from Hong Kong or Macau must use the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents (MTP, 港澳居民来往大陆通行证 or 回乡卡).

This requirement also applies to students from these regions who applied to our programs using a non-Taiwan/HK/Macau passport but hold dual citizenship from Taiwan / Hong Kong / Macau. You are required to use your MTP to enter mainland China. Please contact the Operations team for specific travel instructions to Shanghai.
