Printer Workaround

Background: Apple updated MacOS 11.6.2 Big Sur with a security update to ColorSync (its embedded color management system). Due to this update, default Epson paper profiles are not loading correctly in applications that rely on ColorSync to load paper profiles, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Lightroom. As such, we are suggesting the following workarounds:

If you are using Illustrator, InDesign, or Lightroom, export your print jobs as PDFs and open them in Preview. As Preview does not rely on ColorSync, it is currently unaffected.

If you are printing from Photoshop, in the Photoshop Print Dialog, leave Color Handling set to: "Printer Manages Colors".

In Photoshop, click the Print Settings Button to open the Epson Printer dialog box. If you are printing from Preview, choose menu uptions 'File' -> 'Print' and follow these instructions:

Change the dropdown menu from 'Preview' to 'Color Matching':

Select the 'ColorSync' radio button. A dropdown with the word 'Automatic' will appear. Click the drop down menu to select the proper paper profile.

This will either be Enhanced Matte Paper or Premium Luster Photo Paper if you are purchasing paper from the lab.

If you cannot find the profile you need, select 'Other Profiles...' from the list and use the search bar to locate the appropriate profile. Select the profile (be sure to match the printer and paper type) and click 'OK'.

Change the dropdown from 'Color Matching' to 'Printer Settings':

Select the same printer settings as you would before (Color Mode will be unelectable now as you have set up color in the previous steps):

If you are using Photoshop, click 'Save' to return to the Photoshop print dialog.

If you are using Preview, click 'Print' to send the job to the printer. Make sure you have paper loaded before you send the job.
