Hello, and welcome to Symphonic Band!
Students in Symphonic Band (grades 7 and 8) enjoy rehearsing daily for about 45 minutes and continue to have weekly, 15-minute, pull-out lesson in small groups. This ensemble moves through more music than the 5th- and 6th-grade groups and performs three concerts at school as well as traveling outside of school for an additional performance. In the past, this ensemble has performed at the MMEA Midwinter Clinic and MMEA Middle Level Festivals. Students also work on chamber music in their lessons and may play at the Solo and Ensemble Festival hosted at SCPA.
Symphonic Band focuses on building technical skill and music literacy by reading new music every week. Students in Symphonic Band play in seven key signatures and review reading rhythms from the first two years of playing. The ensemble plays increasingly challenging music with greater musicianship. Students learn to improvise within a given scale.
