Writing
Writing to persuade, recount & entertain.
In our English lessons, we will be learning the skills to write persuasively and produce a persuasive leaflet based on the beautiful book, Weslandia.
We will also be reading The Lion & the Unicorn to write in role as character through diary entries and letters. We will learn to convey emotions within our writing.
After the half term, we will be reading a very exciting novel by Cressida Cowell and writing our own fantasy stories based on this to entertain you all!
Reading
In our guided reading sessions, we will be continuing to practice the skills needed to comprehend a piece of text & how to answer a different comprehension questions.
SPaG
This term we will revisit some aspects of the curriculum that were covered in the autumn term such as subordinate clauses to consolidate our learning.
We will then focus on pronouns, standard English & determiners which form part of the Year 4 Grammar curriculum.
Handwriting
We continue to practice legible, joined handwriting in our daily sessions.
Our key areas of learning this term will be:
Multiplication written methods
Division written methods
Finding the area of a shape
Equivalent fractions
Adding & subtracting fractions
Decimals: tenths and hundredths
Throughout this term we will also be consolidating our times table skills to ensure rapid recall, which we can then use in a range of methods and apply to our key areas of learning.
Community:

exploring how people within the parish serve the community
finding our about the ways the parish community celebrates together and supports one another.
At the end of this topic children can apply their learning by thinking about how they can be a more loving and serving member of the parish community.
Relating:
discussing the joys and demands of giving and receiving
recognise why it is important to live in communion
consider the ways that the Eucharist challenges and enables living and growing in communion.
At the end of this topic the children can apply their learning by thinking about what they can do at school and at home to ensure they live in communion with others.
Giving:
thinking about the ways that we can be self-disciplined and how this can help us grow as a person
showing empathy and understanding about why the events of Holy Week are so significant for Catholics
At the end of this topic then children can apply their learning by practising self-discipline so that they can bring joy to others.
