Writing
Writing to entertain, inform and recount.
In our English lessons, we will be learning the skills to write a mystery story based on 'The Iron Man', by Ted Hughes. The children will explore the devices of mystery and suspense. We will be using a range of drama techniques to support understanding and to develop writing. We will also be using a short animated film called 'Spy Fox' to create an action packed newspaper report.
After the half term, we will be reading 'Escape from Pompeii', an exciting historical narrative that links with our history topic, The Romans. The children will create action, suspense and drama in their own historical stories, based upon the eruption of Vesuvius.
Reading
In our guided reading sessions, we will practice the skills needed to comprehend a piece of text. We will learn how to answer a range of different comprehension questions.
SPaG
This term we will revisit some aspects of the Year 2 & 3 curriculum such as inverted commas, simple tense, & present perfect tense to consolidate our learning.
We will then focus on pronouns, standard English & determiners which form part of the Year 4 Grammar curriculum.
Handwriting
We continue to practice legible, joined handwriting in our daily sessions.

We will also be consolidating our times table skills using a range of methods, and applying these methods to our key areas of learning.
People:
In this topic, we will explore our own family trees and the family of God in Scripture.
We will ask questions such as:
Where do I come from?
To whom do I belong?
To which family did Jesus belong?
Called:
In this topic, we will explore the response to being chosen and describe what it means to be called.
We will learn about:
The call of David and Samuel in the Old Testament.
The call of the Apostles.
The Sacrament of Confirmation.
The baptismal promises.
The work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
The ways in which we can respond to the call of God.
The example of people who responded to God’s call.
The Trinity.
