This contemporary novel explores themes of race, class, and privilege from the perspective of Emira, a young Black woman working as a babysitter, and Alix, the wealthy white woman who employs her. After a humiliating incident in a grocery store, both women are forced to reevaluate what they think they know about themselves and each other.
