In Year 7, students begin their journey through the Religious Education Directory (RED): To Know You More Clearly, which introduces them to the foundations of Christian faith, Scripture, and the life of the Church. The course is structured around the RED lenses: Hear, Believe, Celebrate, Live, Dialogue and Encounter, helping students explore faith intellectually, spiritually and socially.
Throughout the year, students develop religious literacy by studying key biblical texts and the story of salvation. They explore the creation accounts in Genesis, reflecting on what they reveal about God, humanity and the dignity of creation. Students learn how the Bible is structured and interpreted, discovering how Scripture continues to guide Christian belief and practice.
Year 7 also introduces students to the covenant relationship between God and humanity, exploring figures such as Abraham, Moses and the prophets, and considering how God’s promises shape the identity of God’s people. Through these stories, students begin to understand the themes of faithfulness, justice and responsibility.
A central focus of the course is the person of Jesus Christ. Students examine the Gospels to explore Jesus’ teachings, miracles and parables, discovering what Christians believe about Jesus as the Son of God and Saviour. This leads into learning about prayer, worship and the life of the Church, helping students understand how believers celebrate and live out their faith today.
Students are also encouraged to reflect on their own experiences and questions about meaning, identity and purpose, developing skills of respectful discussion and dialogue. They begin to learn about other religions and worldviews, promoting understanding and respect within a diverse society.
By the end of Year 7, students will have built a strong foundation in biblical knowledge, Christian belief and ethical reflection, preparing them to explore more complex theological ideas in later years of the curriculum.
