My motivation for wanting to become a mathematics teacher began after realising how much I benefited from my maths teacher during secondary education. Being someone that is dyslexic, maths has always been my favourite subject in school. My maths teacher helped me realise my strengths within the subject and encouraged me to excel and do greater things in the future.

I knew that I wanted to give back all the hard work and support I received from my teachers. I always knew I wanted to make a difference in young people’s lives whilst continue to do something I love which is mathematics.

My decision for wanting to become a teacher was confirmed after completing the 4-week teaching internship at Agnus Dei Teaching school alliance at St. Bonaventure’s RC school. During the internship, I shadowed and assisted lessons, had one day visits at two other schools, attended taught sessions, and finally taught starter activities and a lesson. The internship made me see the impact teachers make in their day-to-day lives and how rewarding the career is.

I was able to get a real insight into the life of teachers. I observed teachers planning lesson, teaching students, managing behaviour, rewarding students, and building positive relationships. I realised how important it was for a teacher to be a great role model for the students and lead them towards becoming excellent individuals in our community.

After completing my degree, I am currently doing my teacher training at ADCSA school with UCL. This teaching school has supported me during my internship, therefore I knew I would come back and train with them.
