All freshmen students are strongly encouraged to register in spring to participate in the Spartan Marching Band. Registration for the Spartan Marching Band occurs after general course registration. Jazz Band is an extension opportunity for students already in a wind band course to expand their musical awareness into areas of classic and contemporary Big Band/Combo jazz literature. Students gain skills in jazz improvisations and will be able to identify and perform in various jazz styles. Students must audition for the director for entrance and will be strongly preferred for admittance if they are also in a core band course (e.g. concert band, percussion studio, etc). Students are expected to attend all rehearsals, festivals, and concerts for the year. AP Music Theory is an advanced-level course where students learn to read, write, and interpret musical notations that are heard or presented in a written musical score. Students will develop their ear-training and sight-singing skills along with the ability to write and analyze music. Students are strongly encouraged to take the AP test for possible college credit. This course is highly recommended for students in any musical ensemble and will benefit students in band, choir, drama or any other musical pursuits.
The district/band boosters provide the following: facilities, equipment of major expense (major concert percussion instruments, marching percussion instruments, specialized percussion equipment/sticks/mallets, tuba, piano, bassoon, euphonium, and baritone saxophone), marching shoes, and band uniform.
The student is responsible for providing: an instrument if playing the piccolo, flute, clarinet, oboe, alto and tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and basic percussion kit (equipment/sticks/mallets), and black socks for band uniform. We have a limited numbers of these instruments for use by those with a specific need.

Studio Music is a class that will study the various components of singing, playing, writing, recording, and mixing music. The curriculum will include basic performance techniques on vocals, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. The class will also cover learning about using a sound board and music recording software. Students do not need to be proficient in these areas already, instead they need to be highly motivated to learn.
