School Hours: Contact your school site Principal, Assistant Principal, School Psychologist or counselors. We have identified and trained specific school site staff on the NLMUSD district wide Risk Assessment process to ensure the safety of your student.
Outside of School Hours:
If you believe that your child is thinking about suicide, approach the situation by remaining calm and asking. Asking is the first step in saving a life and can let them know that you are there for them and will listen.
If your child is in immediate danger....call 911
If you or someone you care about is in a crisis, call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273-8255 to talk with a caring, trained counselor. It is free, confidential, and available 24/7. The Norwalk-La Mirada McKinney-Vento program goals are to help students in transition overcome barriers of immediate enrollment, transportation to school of origin, and school stability. To offer significant academic and social learning opportunities at after school programs in a safe and healthy environment. To ensure student success by providing the necessary tools to graduate and peruse higher education.
If your family lives:
In a house or apartment with more than one family due to loss of housing or economic hardship
With friends or family because you are a runaway or an unaccompanied youth
In substandard housing (without electricity, water, or heat)
In a shelter
In a motel, hotel, or weekly rate housing
Your child might be able to receive help through a federal law called the McKinney-Vento Act.
