Hello! Welcome to Lewisville ISD Special Education Psychological Services! Our Special Education Department has approximately 300 staff members serving approximately 10,000 students who receive Special Education services.
The Special Education Center houses our Chief Executive Director and eight Directors, "Discipline Leads," some itinerant staff, and Administrative Assistant Support Staff. Itinerant staff are assigned to specific campuses, and many of them have office space on those campuses.
Our welcoming main lobby where visitors can sit while they're waiting to see a staff member.
This is our Main office suite: the receptionist's desk is in the main room, and our Chief Executive Director and several Administrative Assistants have offices in adjoining rooms.
After you leave the Main office area and enter the body of the building, this is the first hallway you’ll see! Directors and their Administrative Assistants have offices in this hallway, as do several Discipline Leads, and their Administrative Assistants.
Our building’s Main Hallway! If you remember that most of the other hallways lead to this hallway, you can find your way back to the Main office …. Or to somebody who can direct you to the Main office!
The building’s Staff Lounge …. with most of the comforts of home! We have a refrigerator, microwave, sink, ice maker, dishwasher, and tables. We also have a drink machine, (not visible in the picture ....)
The Psych Services hallway! The SpED In Home Trainers, MTSS Behavior Administrator, and Behavior Coordinator also have offices in this hallway, but we still refer to the hallway as “Psych Hall.” Our hall actually comes before the Staff Lounge. We know we’re “home” when we see the long row of Psych filing cabinets topped with welcoming, friendly greenery!!! Each Psych Services room was designed specifically for the staff who would occupy that room.
In Psych Services, we're one big family, supporting and encouraging each other! When you turn the corner into our hallway, the second thing that will catch your eye is this bulletin board. The bulletin board changes periodically, but it always celebrates all of our wonderful, dedicated family members!!
The Psych family celebration continues on the opposite side of the hall! We enjoy sharing and acknowledging birthdays of our Staff (with their permission, of course).
And each year we post pictures of our Interns (with their
permission), to help everybody recognize them and remember their names!
This bulletin board is next to the door leading into our large “Psych Room.”
Inside the Psych Room (one end of it)! Our District is safety-conscious, so the door window of each room in the building is equipped with “blackout” covers for lock-down drills or situations. Beside each door we also have Evacuation maps and instructions for what to do in emergency situations.
The table on "this end" of the room has a “mail center” with supplies for Staff who want to prepare out-going mail as well as a mail bin in which Staff can place their out-going mail.
Our “Psych Mailboxes” are also located on this end of the Psych Room. The Mailboxes are used for in-coming mail and for leaving things for Staff. Our Protocol Cabinet sits beside the Mailboxes: on one side of the Cabinet you'll find a list of all of our hard-copy Assessments (online versions are available for most protocols as well), what the Assessment measures, and the age ranges of students for whom each Assessment can be used.
In the Protocol Cabinet, we maintain a supply of our Assessments and Supplements (English and Spanish versions). You'll find a list of our Assessments and Supplements on the "Assessments" tab of this Google Information site. Each Assessment and Supplement has its own file folder, and they're filed in alphabetical order. The inventory is checked on a weekly basis and replenished as needed. Psychs and Interns are free to take Assessments and Supplements from the cabinet as needed.
The Psych Room as seen from the “Protocol Cabinet end.” Most of our Psychs have a cubicle here, with their names posted in the cubicle. And …. We keep a Directory of “who is where” posted on each end of the room.
On the "other end" of the Psych Room we have a scoring center, with software installed for scoring our software-scored Assessments. Psychs and Interns can score those protocols on this computer if they wish. We also have assessments that are administered via links and scored online; Staff can use their laptops or the scoring center computer to access those platforms and print reports.
Our copier/printer and work table! We have a pencil sharpener, electric hole punch, electric stapler, and a bulletin board to read and an entertaining poster to look at (to help you pass time while you’re waiting for your print job to finish)!
In our Storage Room, we have an inventory of kits that are used on a check-out basis. Our large kits (ADOS-2, MIGDAS-2, and BOSA) have designated homes on these shelves.
Our manuals and smaller test kits (also used on a check-out basis) have designated homes in these two cabinets … and they're all lovingly watched over by these friendly “Retired” ADOS-2 kit bunnies!
All of those “check-out basis” kits and manuals are checked out and in using the two binders in this bookshelf! The bookshelf also houses ADOS-2 consumable items (snacks, balloons, play dough, bubble solution, etc.). These items are replenished weekly and Psychs and Interns are free to take them as needed.
Our Psych Library! This is a very busy room, used on a “reservation basis.” Our weekly Intern Didactic trainings take place here, and Psych Services Staff are free to reserve it for WebEx meetings, private Parent calls, Intern meetings with Supervisors, small Staff meetings, etc.
Our Intern Room! Each Intern has their own equipped work space, a filing cabinet, and a storage cabinet above their work space. The cabinets behind the chairs hold supplies for Family Center and FOCUS …. Two programs with which our Interns are involved. More information on these programs is provided on the "Programs" tab on this Site …...
Kathleen - our amazing psych secretary! She provides GREAT support for Psychs and Interns - she replenishes protocols, order supplies, and files evaluation folders.
Kathleen also processes Evaluation Requests (ERs) for the entire SPED Department and serves on our Emergency Response Team.
One of our two outstanding and supportive Lead Psychs, Dr. Kimberly Komon. Dr. Komon is over the School Psychologists.
Our other outstanding and supportive Lead Psych, Dr. Katherine Pierce. Dr. Pierce is our Internship Training Director.
We’re ending our Tour in a very special place! Our Internship Cohort Wall of Fame!
We don't have pictures of our earlier Cohorts .... so, for each of those earlier Cohorts, we listed their training years and Intern names. Each picture is taken at the end of the Internship Training year …. After the Interns have learned and grown …. And contributed to our Program and taught US many things along the way!!
If you look at the pictures closely, you'll see that several of our current Staff were Interns at Lewisville ISD.
We are SO proud of our Interns!!
Thank you for your interest in our Lewisville ISD Doctoral Psychology Internship!
