Mission Statement
“In an effort to improve the quality of education in the Lewisville ISD, the Doctoral School Psychology Internship Program at LISD is committed to meeting the diverse needs of the individual student. The program seeks to accomplish this goal by guiding interns toward the use of research-based methods of assessment, consultation, and intervention in order to expand the professional skills and competencies of the intern and integrate their diverse viewpoints while maximizing the learning and emotional well-being of the individual student.”
Statement of Non-Discrimination
It is the policy of the LISD not to discriminate on the basis of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, language, culture, religion, race, socioeconomic status, or any other area of diversity in its educational and vocational programs, activities or employment as required by Title IX, Section 504, and Title VI. Individuals with diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The Internship at a Glance .....
The Internship runs from July through June; Interns are employed by the district for a one-year period. Many Interns have been hired as permanent employees following completion of the Intern year and we take pride in being able to "grow our own." Interns receive a "developmental salary," which is approximately half the salary of a first year teacher. Full benefits are included.
Interns are paired with a primary and a secondary supervisor based on the interests of the Intern and the experience/training/assignment of the supervisor. In addition, Interns work with supervisors on multidisciplinary autism evaluation teams.
Interns receive at least two hours of individual supervision and two hours of group supervision per week. Interns also participate in didactic trainings including clinical seminars, district staff development and professional learning at the district, regional, and state level.
Interns provide individual and/or group counseling experiences with students with various diagnoses and also conduct solution-focused counseling in our Family Counseling program. Interns participate in facilitating social skills training in our FOCUS program (Families of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder United and Supported). Interns also have opportunities to participate in ongoing research activities.
