Lewisville ISD does not make housing recommendations, but each year we invite our Interns to share their thoughts on their searches and selections.
Please note: Rates and management may have changed since these comments were shared.
24-25 Intern: I used Apartment Hunters for my housing search. I was paired with Aubree Baune and she provided me with a list of properties that fit my budget and the amenities I was looking for. I was looking for an apartment complex that offered frequent social events so that I could engage with the community, since I moved from out of state. I was in between Discovery at The Realm and The Mill Old Town. I ended up choosing The Mill Old Town because they offered the best deal. They were running a special for 2 free months and they also provided a one-time discount for LISD employees. They have 2-3 monthly social events and they are also a walkable distance from Old Town.

24-25 Intern: While central Irving is serviceable, I hope to move to Las Colinas (north Irving), Flower Mound, Plano, South Lake, Coppell, or Carrollton/ Farmers Branch, as they are in “better” areas. Better community atmospheres, better places for kids, etc. However, costs are generally higher in those areas, so finding affordable options that fit an intern income is very challenging. In Grapevine there are varied options, and it may be a reasonable middle ground for prospective interns. Costs in DFW have risen dramatically in the last 10 years, and living with roommates has become more common as a result. There ARE reasonable options (1 BR apartments ~1000 per month), but it will take some searching to find one with a decent commute to Central Elementary. It is not unusual to commute 20-40 minutes to work in DFW, so it is important to have a reliable vehicle. I can say that travel from Irving is reasonable, and takes 25-30 minutes most days. Generally, I have found housing options to be more affordable the farther south you go from LISD, but my experience is limited.

23-24 Intern: I live in central Lewisville in an apartment called OakBend at Bridges. The LISD Special Education Center is approximately 10 minutes away by road. Most of my schools are within a 20–25-minute drive, which is quite reasonable. I like my apartment; it has washer/dryer units installed, which was a priority for me. However, similar to many others in this area, it lacks an elevator, making bringing groceries to the apartment challenging at times. The current rent is around $1400, which is consistent with neighboring apartments. I really like this place because there are many restaurants around, Walmart is within 5 minutes walking distance, and the easy access to 121 State Highway and I-35 E.

23-24 Intern: I live in Carrollton in an apartment complex right off of highway 35 (Switchyard). It’s been a nice place to live and is only about 10 minutes from our SPED office so the commute is great. Switchyard has been nice to live in but it is a little more expensive than I was hoping to pay and there are a few things I wish I could change about the complex itself, not necessarily my unit. I’m living in a studio and it’s the perfect amount of space for me and my dog but I don’t plan on renewing my lease here – just want something a little bigger and different! Since being here I’ve seen some nice apartments in Lewisville, Coppell, Grapevine, Carrollton, and Flower Mound. Some cities are more expensive than others but there are plenty of places to look at to find the right place for you!

23-24 Intern: Trophy Club is a great spot if you are relocating your whole family! It is about 30 mins away from Central SpEd center but worth the drive if you want to live in a community that is family-friendly with parks/trails and located close to a lot of dining, shopping, airport, etc.

23-24 Intern: I am living in Grapevine, and it has been a great location for me. It is a safe area and I live in a very dog friendly apartment complex that is in my price range with good amenities (Dane Park Grapevine). I also live right across the street from Grapevine Mills Mall, which has a lot of great stores, and they hold a lot of fun events for families throughout the year. Grapevine downtown is also a great place to walk, and Grapevine is called the Christmas capital of Texas, so I am excited to go see all the lights this year. Grapevine also has many festivals they hold downtown throughout the year, and they have been fun to attend on weekend. For LISD, I work in both central and east zones and my furthest school may take me about 30 minutes to get to in the morning with traffic, about 20 minutes without traffic. I am also about 13 minutes from the SPED office without traffic and 20 minutes with traffic. My coffee shop is in Carrollton and I enjoy spending time in that area as well.
