Lewisville ISD Psychological Services consists of 27 Licensed School Psychologists, four doctoral-level interns, and one secretary for the 2025-2026 school year. Sixteen of the School Psychologists have doctoral degrees, and eleven of these School Psychologists are also Licensed Psychologists. The School Psychologists work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, and special education students to reduce psychosocial barriers that interfere with learning. Psychological Services provides psychological evaluations, counseling, behavior management, and crisis intervention. The School Psychologists support campus staff and parents through consultation regarding students with emotional and behavioral difficulties. The members of Psychological Services are not only involved in the more traditional role of school psychologists that includes evaluation and consultation but are also invested in exploring novel avenues by which to serve students, parents, district staff, and fellow psychologists. Our School Psychologists have helped introduce and/or are actively involved in innovative programs such as the Family Counseling Center, Safe and Civil schools, an Autism program for families, and a Safe and Drug-Free Schools Task Force. Additionally, School Psychologists take an active role in behavior MTSS processes on their campuses - they attend MTSS meetings and consults with teachers, administrators, and parents to support students.
Programs:
LISD offers a wide range of special education instructional programs and supports, which includes Inclusion, Resource, Academic Life Skills (ALS), Academic and Vocational/Prevocational Life Skills (AVLS), Functional Life Skills (FLS), Behavior Intervention Classroom (BIC), Teaching for Emotional, Academic, and Motivational Success (TEAMS), Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) classes, and Communication Classes. Psychological Services also offers, or participates in, the following specialized programs:
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) – Campus MTSS teams develop interventions and provide documentation of response to such interventions.
Family Center – This special education center provides counseling, parenting skills education, consultation, and referral services.
FOCUS Night – This is a monthly meeting for parents of LISD students with Autism with specialized services for all family members, including parent groups, identified student groups, and sibling groups.
Individual and Group Counseling- Such counseling is provided at the campus level.
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training – One school psychologist is a certified CPI trainer who provides training to district staff. Some school psychologists and all psychology interns participate in such training in order to provide a full range of behavioral interventions to students.
CARE teams – The Care Team (Crisis and Response Express) consists of approximately 25 counselors and School Psychologists from LISD who have received specific training for responding to schools who have a need for additional help when crises occur.
Direct and Indirect Services:
LISD School Psychologists routinely provide evaluation, consultation, and intervention services in schools. On average, each school psychologist serves 2-3 campuses. In addition to conducting emotional and behavioral evaluations, school psychologists serve on multidisciplinary autism evaluation teams and participate in Early Childhood evaluations. School Psychologists also have the opportunity to supervise doctoral interns, practicum students, and pre-practicum students.
Professional Activities and Awards:
Annual Presentations at the American Psychological Association conventions.
Annual Presentations at National Association of School Psychologists conventions.
Psychological services seminars cover a wide range of topics such as understanding the DSM-5, ADOS-2 training, suicide prevention/intervention, safe and drug free schools, pediatric psychology in a school setting, eating disorders, and multicultural issues.
Participation in a special education project that analyzed overrepresentation of minority students in special education utilizing PBMAS indicators.
Ongoing autism and program evaluation research teams. Current program evaluations involve the efficacy of the Special Education Family Center and the efficacy of district autism evaluations.
In May 2007, Psychological Services, in collaboration with the LISD Guidance and Counseling Department, wrote and submitted the Safe Schools/Health Students grant for a total of $1.4 million to combined resources of the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Juvenile Justice.
LISD Psychological Services was the proud recipient of the Texas Association of School Psychologists 2007 award for Outstanding Delivery of School Psychology Services.
