7th Grade Eco Writers
Students partner with children in K–2 G&T classrooms to write children’s books about environmental issues. Students work with a buddy in that class to identify that child’s favorite animal and children’s book. Students then work to develop a fictional children’s book about the animal and its ecosystem using ecological concepts to drive the plot. Through this project, students will learn about the specific ecosystem that is the focus of the book, food webs, ecosystem interactions, resources, and human impact on the environment.
Fibonacci’s Perfect Spiral
We celebrate Fibonacci Day on November 23 because when written out numerically, the date reads the first four digits of the Fibonacci sequence. No matter which day of the week the date falls on, the MM/DD format always reads as 11/23

7th Grade Dreamers and Doers Unit
Dreamer and Doer Award - students will pick a person they feel deserves an award for being a visionary or leader in the world. The award can be anything from a leader in the industry to a leader in social justice.

Titanic Exploration
In 1912, popular media headlined the sinking of the world’s largest luxury passenger ocean liner while on its maiden voyage. Newspapers captivated the world’s attention with stories from survivors and about victims who did not survive. Students will examine responses to the disaster and evaluate bias and different ways information is presented, and then apply what they learn to interpreting a political cartoon about the sinking of the Titanic. This unit will show students that studying history enables us to develop a better understanding of the world in which we live. They’ll learn that building knowledge and understanding of historical events and trends, especially over the past century, enables us to develop a much greater appreciation for current events today. 7th Grade - Golden Ages
This project introduces students to the concept of a “golden age” in the history of civilizations around the world—a time when civilizations flourished and there was peace, prosperity, and achievement.

In Intro to Linguistics, students will explore Linguistics with Mrs. Maziou, the scientific study of language and its structure. Students will learn about the basic features of several languages, as well as various approaches to teaching foreign languages. They will also research and this will culminate in the design of a new app for language learning.
6-8th Grade Passion Projects
Students will spend the year focusing on their passions, which can range from saving endangered animals, climate change, or to making sports accessible to people with disabilities. The Passion Project is an opportunity to teach many valuable life skills including letter writing, public speaking, web design, and fundraising while discovering how a personal passion can drive change. The students will showcase their Passion Projects at an End-of-Year Expo where they have an opportunity to share their ideas with families, friends, and students at our Annual Luau.
