This is a story about a young black girl who wins a scholarship to a school for bright students. She is one of the very few black students in the school and her family has little money. She has to learn to cope with students who are mostly rich and white. Her passion is art and she used this to show her feelings and emotions. She is entered into a mentoring program with an older black woman and the reader will see how racism occurs in and out of all types of social settings. This book is an eye opener for all types/races of readers.
