Year 5
During Mission Week, we spent a lot of time with the Blessed Sacrament and enjoyed listening to Father John’s stories about how he shared kindness with others and how we can too. We also wrote our own bidding prayers and led our first class mass in Year 5.
We have been learning a lot about The Ten Commandments and Matthew’s gospel. We are following Jesus’ teachings and listening to scriptures from the bible to live good and happy lives.
Our focus book ‘In Our Hands,’allowed us to deepen our understanding of illustrations and how to tell a story with little text and powerful pictures. We created our own characters and designed our own story boards, inspired by the author Lucy Farfot.
For Fluency Friday we really enjoyed an outdoor games activity where we had to solve the number problems adding and subtracting 10,000’s. It was fun to work in teams and use our skills from PE and mathematics together.
Year 6
Congratulations to Emily in Year 6, who had passed her Grade 5 Piano Exam. We are very proud of her and we look forward to hearing her play in school. You can watch her performance for her exam here -
In our History lesson we learned about how World War II started and the timeline of the main events that happened leading up to and during the war.
We understood who the allied and axis powers were during the war and looked at a brief overview of life in Britain during the war.
We took cover as the air raid siren played and started to understand why children were evacuated from London during the war.
We also visited the Imperial War Museum in London to look at artefacts and learn more about WWII.
In our Science lessons, we have been looking at classifying living things into different groups. We classified them based on their physical characteristics into groups such as vertebrates and invertebrates.
