Year 3
This term the year 3 children had started to cook in the cookery room with Ms Flynn, it was all about introducing them to the room and utensils. They had the opportunity to explore and use a variety of equipment to bake and eat. They loved baking delicious cupcakes with buttercream icing and sprinkles as well as making pizza out of bread.
Year 3 loved creating their own identity collage, by experimenting through layering, tearing and overlapping. They did this by cutting/tearing up their self portrait into different strips, sticking this onto their Ethnic heritage flag and using a variety of magazines to cut out their favourite things.
In Art club, the children enjoyed creating a flower, by using a variety of tissue paper. They also had fun making their own cloud rainbow, they had to cut out their own cloud using scissors, then stick on different coloured strips of their choice and used cotton wool to stick on top of their cloud and some children used googly eyes and red circles to produce the face of the cloud.
In year 3, this term we are learning about Rocks and Soils. The children were able to work in groups as a team to compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties.
Ayan has been busy in Maths using the Dienes to share groups equally. He worked independently using the part whole model to partition numbers.
Some children had the opportunity to have fun in the soft play room, as well as exploring the new winter themed sensory area in Elmer’s Walk.
Year 4
In Year 4 in our Science lessons we have been learning about teeth for our ‘human nutrition’ unit. We discovered that the tooth enamel is quite similar to the egg shells so we designed an eggsperiment to discover how certain drinks can damage it. In 4Y we decided to test: coke, pickle juice, coconut water, apple juice and Prime. To make a fair test we used the same jars and the same amount of drink. We then observed how the eggs changed over a period of 5 days…enjoy the pictures, luckily they are smell free!
For our Citizenship focus weeks we went to a Charity fair organised at St. Joachim’s. We discovered local and worldwide charities, how they work to raise money to help less fortunate people (such as CAFOD, Your Place, HCPT Group 84) but also how some charities like E4C and Alliance of education focus on teaching children the importance of inclusion and diversity.
Chuk and Emmanuel have enjoyed gymnastics lessons and also have been on some walks in the local area and taken a ride on the bus.
