Year 1

Year 1 pupils explored the concept of finding a quarter of a quantity through practical, hands-on learning using counters. By sharing counters into four equal groups, the children developed their understanding of fractions and learned to identify one quarter of different numbers. Using concrete resources helped pupils to visualise mathematical concepts clearly, building confidence and supporting their early reasoning skills. 

Year 2

Year 2 pupils have been developing their understanding of different units of measurement through a range of practical, real-world experiences. Using metre sticks, the children measured one another to build familiarity with standard units and improve their estimation and comparison skills. To further deepen their understanding of distance, the class completed a 2km walk, linked to the historical context of the Great Fire of London, helping them to appreciate just how far the fire spread. These engaging activities supported mathematical fluency while making learning purposeful and memorable.
