Quiz Club - Maths
On Friday 30th January, 4 children in Year 6 entered into a national Maths quiz competition. The first round of the competition saw over 40 schools compete online in a live quiz, answering 30 questions to see which schools scored the highest.
This was the first year we have entered a team into this competition and the team did amazingly, scoring third place in their heat (Only 50 points behind the first place team). This means that they automatically progressed to the semi finals.
Semi-finals: The Maths Quiz team took part in one of the online semi-final competition that consisted of 130 schools each. The quiz was in a similar format to the first heat, but the questions increased in difficulty. We finished off in 63rd place (out of 260 schools that qualified nationally) which unfortunatelyw was not enough to qualify for the final. However, the children thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and experience all round.

To celebrate the end of our Maths Focus weeks at St Helen's, the children came dressed as rock stars and robots for our Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) and Numbots Day.
The children enjoyed maths themed activities throughout the day and a "Rock Off" on the playground.

As part of our Maths Focus weeks, the children in KS1 demonstarted their fluency in number with a Numbots Competition. In the first round classes 1Y and 2Y collected the most coins as a class. This meant that they progressed onto the final.
The winners of the Numbots Ultimate Battle Final were class 2Y - well done to 2Y and all the classes for their hard work and efforts. This competition saw a great increase in engagement with Numbots across the EYFS and KS1.

Similar to KS1, the children in KS2 demonstarted their fluency with their times tables in a Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) Competition. In the first round, yeah year group battled each other to collected the most coins. The winners progressed to the semi final before 6Y and 4Y battled it out in the Grand Final.
The winners of the KS2 TTRS Ultimate battle were class 4Y - well done to 4Y and all the classes for all their hard work. There has been a big boost in engagement and heat maps during this competition and all classes had 100% engagement during the battles.
Maths Focus Weeks
The focus weeks centred around the theme “Maths is Everywhere!”, enabling pupils to explore the strong connections between mathematics and other areas of the curriculum, as well as its application in everyday life. Children investigated how mathematical skills are used across subjects such as science, geography, art, and PE, and identified real-world contexts where maths plays a vital role. These experiences helped to deepen pupils’ understanding of the relevance of mathematics, promoting curiosity, engagement, and a greater appreciation of how maths underpins the world around us.
