Go Blue is an exciting instructional approach for teaching reading in the elementary grades. "Go Blue" is a core curriculum program that is designed to support and accelerate the growth of children as readers and writers. The mission of this program is to help all children by delivering instruction that is aligned with their development as readers to support them in reaching their potential. This reading approach provides support and interventions specifically tailored to meet all students’ needs. This is the rationale for our new “Go Blue” program.
During the first weeks of school we administered multiple reading assessments to the entire first grade. Based on the results of these assessments, the first grade team and reading specialists have identified students that will benefit from small group, direct, daily reading instruction. In “Go Blue” students will be receiving this intervention five days a week for one hour each day. This support occurs during the hour of guided reading instruction for all students. In other words, your child will not miss any parts of first grade’s core curriculum. These sessions with reading specialists will include direct, small group reading instruction that targets the areas of phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency and comprehension. This targeted approach will support your child in growing and reaching his or her highest level of performance in reading.
We are very excited to be able to provide this level of support for our growing students.
