Types of Expectations
Your school might have school-wide expectations. It is important to reinforce these in your classroom and align your class rules with them.
When defining your class rules it is crucial that you have student voice. Create the rules with your students so they have ownership of them. Many teachers have their students sign the rules as a contract.

According to the IRIS Center, "Teachers should always keep in mind that one of the major influences on behavior is the students’ culture. Teachers themselves come from particular societies, groups, and places, they must be mindful that their own beliefs and practices can be likewise influenced, as can the broader policies, practices, and expectations of the schools and districts in which they teach."
