According to Marzano's research, educators can build academic vocabulary by following this 6 step process:
Provide a description of the word
Have students restate the description in their own words
Ask students to create a picture to represent the word
Engage students in activities that build on their knowledge and have them record their thinking in a vocabulary notebook
Have students discuss the terms with one another
Involve students in games that involve the vocabulary terms
