A Wonderful Start to the School Year!
What a fantastic first week of school! It was great welcoming all our new and returning students back onto our campus. The positive energy resonated across campus, and our Back to School Nights were a great success. We are excited to carry this wonderful momentum into the school year ahead.
I want to extend a special and personal thank you to our Student Support Administrator, Katie Berger. She did a beautiful job leading the school on Thursday and Friday while I was moving my daughter, Abby, into Sonoma State (transferred from DVC) and my son, Eytan, into the University of Nevada, Reno (Freshman). My husband and I are officially empty nesters; it is a good thing I have 526 Vista Grande students to love & support!
I also want to express my deepest gratitude to all our families. Your generous donations have made Ms. Berger's position possible. Our strong parent partnership is what allows us to have two administrators supporting our students and staff, and for that, we are incredibly grateful. THANK YOU!
Looking Ahead:
This week, we will continue with our assessment schedule; see image below for details.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade Slip begins the week of August 25, 2025. Your child's teacher will be communicating with you this week to share your child's groupings; this is based on where your child will be most successful academically and able to make the most growth.
Please join us for the Vista Grande Welcome Back Picnic this Friday, August 22nd, from 5:00-7:00 on the blacktop! Skip the cooking, come enjoy the food truck options and don't forget to bring a picnic blanket or beach chairs. We can't wait to see you there!
As was shared with you at Back to School Night we are implementing The Positivity Project this year at Vista Grande. Our teachers will be launching the first life skill lessons this week and the first skill will span over a two week period. Also, please join us for a Parent/Caregiver Education Night on Oct. 1 at 6:00 PM in the MPR (with an online option)! Please note the DATE HAS CHANGED!!
Warmly,

Introducing our New Office Staff
Office Secretary
4 Days a Week
Hello everyone,
My name is Juliette Brickley, and I’m thrilled to be joining the Vista Grande team as the new
office secretary! Some of your kids might already know me as “Ms. B” — I had the pleasure of
serving as a Resident Substitute at VG last year, in addition to working as a day-to-day
substitute throughout SRVUSD.
Before entering the education world, I worked in media roles with both the NFL and MLB and
managed several small businesses. I’m a Danville native, who loves the outdoors, traveling, and
cozying up with a book. I also have two children at Vista Grande — a fourth grader and a second grader — who are very excited to have Mom on campus (phew!).
Vista Grande is truly a special community, thanks to the strong collaboration between staff and
families. I’m so looking forward to contributing to that partnership in my new role, and I can’t
wait to meet all of you!
Warmly,
Juliette Brickley
Hello Vista Grande,
My name is Stacey Fan, and I’m so excited to join the Vista Grande Elementary School Team as a part-time School Office Assistant! I have loved working at Tassajara Hills Elementary School the last 6 years, and previously as a parent volunteer. Working in an environment with students, teachers, and parents brings me much joy and dexterity in navigating whatever the day throws at you.
Outside of work, I love hiking, traveling, exploring museums of all kinds, painting, and watching K-dramas—these activities bring delight and a sense of connection to the world around me.
My background includes mapping Paleoclimates, being sponsored by Redbull, printing skateboards, and failing in some parts of obstacle courses.
I’m also the proud parent of two amazing kids: one at Monte Vista High School and one at Diablo Valley Middle School. We share our home with an Australian Shepherd who has perfected the art of being a professional snack beggar.
I’m looking forward to meeting all of you, this school year, and being a part of this vibrant community!
Aloha and mahalo!
Stacey Fan
Weeks of 8/18 & 8/25:
Over the next two weeks our school teachers will begin implementing our new Social Emotional Program, Positivity Project. The first focus is Other People Mindset.
The Positivity Project (P2) aims to empower students to build positive relationships by understanding, appreciating, and exemplifying the character strengths in us all.
The Other People Mindset is a foundational concept within P2, teaching students that positive relationships are important – and that there are actions students can take to build positive relationships. Here are the five Other People Mindset elements:
Identify and appreciate the good in other people
Understand that your words and actions affect other people
Cheer other people on when they succeed
Support other people when they struggle
Remain present and give other people your attention
While mental health is incredibly complex, we know that positive relationships can help people become happier, healthier, and more resilient. And, relationship-building skills are critical for leadership, collaboration, and effective communication – abilities that will be essential in future careers. The Positivity Project believes educators have a tremendous opportunity and vital role to play in teaching students that relationships are important to their health and success – and ways to actively build positive relationships in their lives.
To practice and encourage the Other People Mindset at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s links based on your child/ren's age group. Enjoy the video together and leading questions to build on the skills they are learning at school.

Dear Vista Grande Families,
I’m writing to share some information about one of our key priorities as we begin the 2025-26 school year: supporting the social-emotional well-being of our students. Along with The Positivity Project at Vista Grande, we also conduct district-wide screeners, not just for academics but to ensure we are supporting our students' social and emotional needs.
We recognize how important it is to ensure that our students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. To help us better understand and respond to their needs, we will be administering a district-approved questionnaire to all students two to three times throughout the school year. Student responses will guide our efforts in providing support and broad interventions to meet the needs of all of our students.
The questionnaire for grades K-7 asks for a YES, NO, or SOMETIMES response to the following five prompts:
I like being at school.
If I need help in class, I can ask my teacher.
I am able to do my school work by myself.
I have friends at school.
There is an adult at school who cares about me.
The questionnaire will be administered to students three times this year. The windows through which your students will take the questionnaire are as follows:
Beginning of Year: August 25 - September 12
Middle of Year: December 1 - December 19
End of Year: May 4 - May 22
Students in grades K-7 will complete the questionnaire during class time.
If you have any questions or concerns, or wish to opt your child out of completing the questionnaire, please email their teacher by August 22nd so they can ensure they do not participate in this screener.
