Halloween can be a tricky time for families managing food allergies. We are hoping to spread awareness in our school community about the Teal Pumpkin Project - from F.A.R.E. (Food Allergy Research & Education).
Putting a teal pumpkin on your doorstep means you have non-food treats available, such as glow sticks or small toys. This simple act promotes inclusion for trick-or-treaters with food allergies or other conditions.
Here is a cute Halloween Inspired Video to explain more:
Cultural Appropriation is simply taking one aspect of a culture that is not your own and using it for your own personal interest. Cultural Appreciation is when someone seeks to understand and learn about another culture in an effort to broaden their perspective and connect with others cross-culturally. Watch this video.

Downer Thanksgiving Food Drive is starting!
Every year, VG collects food and treats to put together Thanksgiving Bags for our sister school, Downer Elementary. The goal is to fill bags for 42 families. We have 2 short weeks to build these bags, but with your help, here’s how we’re going to make it happen:
1st - find your specific class item:
Each class contributes one specific food item to the food drive. A flier with your child’s specific class item will be coming home today.
2025 Downer Thanksgiving Food Drive Class Item List
(list is also attached)
Bring food item(s) to class. Can bring in before Nov. 7 - no need to wait
Please follow the size requests. It can be a tight squeeze to get everything in the bags!
2nd - check out the Special VG Items list:
At the end of the drive, we will also use this sign-up genius for any last minute items.
All donations are due Friday, Nov. 7th
3rd - If possible, sign-up to help Assemble & Deliver the Thanksgiving Bags:
Assemble: Thursday, Nov. 13, 2:30 - 3:30pm. Bring your kids to help build the Thanksgiving bags.
Deliver: Friday, Nov. 14 (time TBD but will be in the morning).
