Hello Vista Grande Falcons,
The energy at Vista Grande is at an all-time high! It's been a fantastic start to the school year as our students, teachers, staff, and families have all settled into their new routines over the first three weeks.
Our students have jumped right into their grade-level curriculum and are already thriving. Additionally we have started implementing The Positivity Project by exploring the first topic; OTHER PEOPLE MINDSET, where students learn about how their actions affect others around them.
We encourage you to continue this learning at home. It's simple to get started:
Click on a weekly topic link below.
Read the introductory letter.
Choose your child's grade level.
You'll find a short family video and three guiding questions to help you spark a meaningful conversation with your child.
Please join us for a PTA hosted Parent/Caregiver Education Night on Tuesday, October 1, at 6:00 PM in the MPR. We will also have an online option available for those who can't attend in person. Please note that this date has been changed from our original schedule.
We're looking forward to a wonderful month ahead!
With Gratitude,
Osi Juergens

Family Support at School
We need your help with a couple of reminders from the VG Family Handbook.
First, we've noticed an increase in students bringing personal items like toys, makeup, perfume, and body spray to school. Please help us by reminding your children to leave these items at home. This also includes popular Labubu toys and keychains, which should not be brought to campus.
Second, please remember that e-scooters are not permitted for anyone under the age of 15, and e-bikes may not meet the age requirements for our students. We have noticed a few of these on campus recently.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our campus focused and safe.
Items Not Permitted at School
Students are not allowed to bring roller skates, roller blades, shoes with wheels, baseball bats, hard balls, skateboards, tobacco products, drugs/alcohol, gum, toys, toy key chains, weapons (real or fake), makeup, nail polish, water balloons, fire crackers, stink bombs, or aerosol cans (shaving cream, hair spray, perfume, etc.) as they pose a safety concern. If these items are brought to school, they will be confiscated and brought to the school office. Parents may be required to come to the office to claim them and students may be assigned disciplinary consequences. The school accepts NO responsibility for lost or damaged items.
Students may ride bicycles or scooters to school and park them in the rack located in the main courtyard. Once on campus, they must walk their bike or scooter to the rack and secure it with/without their own lock.
The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
Riders must follow all traffic laws, wear helmets while riding, and be courteous to pedestrians. Bicycles and scooters may not be ridden on campus at any time during the school day. Students should walk their bikes or scooters on sidewalks to and from Diablo Road or Richard Lane.
All families are encouraged to watch the SRVUSD E-Bike and Scooter Safety Video and review the SRVUSD At-a-Glance Summary Safety Chart on e-bikes, and e-scooters. NO E-SCOOTERS ARE ALLOWED ON ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES.

District Information
San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the month of September as National Literacy Month. The schools of SRVUSD stand firmly committed to promoting reading as the catalyst for our students’ future academic, professional, and personal success. We are committed to providing the highest quality evidence-based instructional materials, screening and diagnostic tools, interventions, and supports so that every student becomes a proficient and engaged reader, writer, speaker, and listener.
SRVUSD encourages engagement with parents and caregivers so they can support literacy at home and enhance opportunities for exploration, fun, and in support of academic achievement.
San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the month of September as Citizenship Awareness Month. It is important that our students understand the basic principles of democracy and what it means to be an American citizen. Young people can play a critical role in our democracy by helping to choose the people who will lead us and by voicing their opinions on the issues that are important to them.
Students are encouraged to participate in the democratic process through voter education programs and involvement in civic engagement activities. District schools are encouraged to celebrate Constitution Day on September 17 and participate in California High School Voter Education Weeks during the last two weeks of September.
San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes September 15 - October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic and Latino Americans have made so many social, artistic, linguistic, and intellectual contributions to our society, the State of California, and our community. Their influence and rich history enrich our nation and our schools through their entrepreneurship, commitment to community service, deep value of justice and liberty and social and cultural life. As stated in the Multicultural Education Policy of the California State Board of Education, each student needs an opportunity to understand the common humanity underlying all people.
We have great pride in the beauty and strength that is the diversity of our students, staff, and community as a whole. We design our curriculum to be objective and developmentally appropriate, helping students develop critical thinking skills, understand multiple perspectives, and prepare for success in an ever-changing world. We remain committed to delivering the highest quality education to all students, fostering their academic and social growth, and cultivating supportive environments where every member of our school community feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive.
We also respect the rights of parents and caregivers to guide their child's education. Recently, a Supreme Court ruling, Mahmoud v. Taylor (6/27/2025), clarified that, based on a “sincerely held religious belief”, a parent or caregiver can opt their student out “from specific aspects of the school curriculum” that impact their religious belief. This ruling does not change the content we teach in our schools; rather, it clarifies the circumstances under which a family can request to opt out of specific learning opportunities. If you wish to request an exemption for your child from “specific aspects of the school curriculum” based on a sincerely held religious belief, please contact me.

September is Attendance Awareness Month
Did you know?
Missing just 2 days of school each month adds up to nearly a full month of lost learning in a year. Early absences often predict ongoing attendance problems, and students who miss too much school risk falling behind academically. Parents and caregivers play a key role in supporting strong attendance. Aim for your child to attend at least 95% of school days each year. Tips for good attendance:
Make daily, on-time attendance a priority and have backup plans if issues arise.
Monitor your child’s attendance and ask the front office if you need help accessing records.
Schedule routine appointments outside of school hours when possible.
Avoid vacations during school days. If travel is unavoidable, ask about an independent study contract.
Here is some additional information about what you can do to help your student get to school on time every day: Elementary or Secondary
If you have any questions or concerns about your student’s attendance, please reach out to us!
THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP
Did you know?
Research has shown that sleep is very important for learning and memory, and helps children process and integrate the information they learned during the day.
For more information, check out this article from Harvard Medicine discussing all the ways that sleep affects children’s growth and development, and this website about how sleep works.
Parents and caregivers are essential partners in promoting good attendance!
Here are some strategies that can help:
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine and help your child maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s sleep. Teenagers need 8-10 hours and elementary students need 9-12 hours of sleep every night!
Check out this article about why teens struggle to get enough sleep and how parents can help.
Here’s an article from the NY Times with suggestions on how to wake up earlier.
We’re here for you! If you have any questions or concerns about your student’s attendance, please contact our school office.
If you would like to volunteer this year please sign up or log in to check the status of your previous sign-up so you are ready to volunteer during the 25/26 school year.
In SRVUSD, we continue to prioritize student safety and improve our procedures for processing and clearing volunteers.

Dear Vista Grande Families,
I’m writing to share some information about one of our key priorities as we begin the 2025-26 school year: supporting the social-emotional well-being of our students. Along with The Positivity Project at Vista Grande, we also conduct district-wide screeners, not just for academics but to ensure we are supporting our students' social and emotional needs.
We recognize how important it is to ensure that our students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. To help us better understand and respond to their needs, we will be administering a district-approved questionnaire to all students two to three times throughout the school year. Student responses will guide our efforts in providing support and broad interventions to meet the needs of all of our students.
The questionnaire for grades K-7 asks for a YES, NO, or SOMETIMES response to the following five prompts:
I like being at school.
If I need help in class, I can ask my teacher.
I am able to do my school work by myself.
I have friends at school.
There is an adult at school who cares about me.
The questionnaire will be administered to students three times this year. The windows through which your students will take the questionnaire are as follows:
Beginning of Year: August 25 - September 12
Middle of Year: December 1 - December 19
End of Year: May 4 - May 22
Students in grades K-7 will complete the questionnaire during class time.
If you have any questions or concerns, or wish to opt your child out of completing the questionnaire, please email their teacher by August 22nd so they can ensure they do not participate in this screener.
