The Symphonic Band is a high-quality performing ensemble designed for the highly skilled musician. Entrance and placement in the class is by audition only. Students in the Symphonic Band will study, practice, and perform a wide variety of wind band literature, with an emphasis on a high artistic level of performance. As the flagship group of the Piner High School Band program, the Symphonic Band performs frequently throughout the year at school, community and festival events. There is a mandatory performance requirement for this course. The Symphonic Band is recognized a a college preparatory course by the University of California.
Honors:
Students will have the opportunity of taking Symphonic Band as an honors level course this year. Those students who meet a minimum standard as set by Mr. Mayer in a live audition at the end of the previous year are eligible. This band will be combined with Symphonic Band until there is enough interest and student population to create a third level of band. Students enrolled in this course will be expected to participate in a number of solo and group ensembles as well as complete intensive coursework that corresponds with what the ensemble is currently working on. Students will be asked to demonstrate leadership within their sections, maintain a personal commitment to their instrument and the program through practice, and demonstrate passion their about music daily. Students who do not follow these guidelines will be asked to step down from the honors level course. The Symphonic Band is recognized as a college preparatory course by the University of California.
Symphonic Band is made up of the two courses and rehearses during 6th Period Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
