Symphonic Band/Honors Auditions

• Our first audition will take place on Monday, March 10th. Our last audition will take place on May 9th. Be sure to sign up for an audition TODAY to get a time slot. I will not be taking any auditions after 5/9

• Please contact Mr. Mayer via email to schedule a 10-minute audition slot. These may be held before/after school, during break/lunch, or at another time as needed.  

Symphonic band is designed for more advanced musicians that have been playing their instrument in their school ensemble for at least 2-3 years. This is an upper-level course and students will be graded as such. Please keep in mind that Concert Band does not require an audition. If you signed up for Concert band and make it into Symphonic Band, Mr Mayer will be sure that it is reflected on your schedule.

Audition Information 

Please note: I will not have the music printed out for you. You can either print it out at home, or come prepared with it pulled up digitally on your chromebook 

Please be sure to practice with a metronome. The metronome markings are indicated in parenthesis. If you are a HCMS or PHS student and need some help, you can ask me for some help outside of class time. 

Symphonic Band: 

• Bb Chromatic Scale (85 bpm): Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto, Tenor, Trumpet/Baritone T.C, French Horn, Percussion (on bells) , Trombone/Baritone, Tuba  

• Please click on your instrument link above for your music 

• 3 Major Scales one octave (in concert pitch up to the 9th) Bb, F, C (100bpm)

• Music C Treble  Bb Treble Eb Treble F Treble Bass Clef Piano/Percussion 

• In 8th note please

• Any Prepared piece of music (approx 1 min) with contrasting playing

Honors Symphonic Band:

• Bb Chromatic Scale (100 bpm): Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto, Tenor, Trumpet/Baritone T.C, French Horn, Percussion (on bells) , Trombone/Baritone, Tuba

• 12 Major Scales one octave up to the 9th (100bpm) 

• at least 6 must be up to tempo and performed cleanly to be considered

• Music C Treble  Bb Treble Eb Treble F Treble Bass Clef Piano/Percussion 

• In 8th note please

• Any Prepared piece of music (approx 1 min) with contrasting playing
