Workflow is the path that an assignment takes from start to finish. Below is a diagram of what a workflow looks like. Most students are at least somewhat familiar with turning in assignments, but may not know a lot about some other parts of the work flow. Notice in the diagram below and as you continue to scroll down:
Your teacher may return your assignment with a request for more information.
You may be asked to revise, or fix, your assignment and turn it in again.
There may be comments attached when your work is returned. This is your feedback. It lets you know what your teacher thinks about your work and how well you have met the goal of the assignment.
It is very important to review this page so that you have a solid understanding of how the process works.
Workflow Tutorial: Here is a 10 minute video tutorial for how to turn in work and review feedback when work has been returned.
All new assignments will be posted to the CLASSWORK Tab. Tap on each assignment to view instructions and attachments.
Read assignment instructions carefully to make sure that you understand what to do.
If you are not sure what needs to be done or have a question, make sure you email your teacher right away.
Where to attach your work:
Go to the Classwork area in Google Classroom
Tap the assignment to view the details
Tap the Your Work link at the bottom of the screen to show your work area.
There are three ways to turn in materials depending on whether you have created a document, slideshow, video, image, voice recording, or other type of file. The three methods are listed below. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with all three. You can return to this page and follow the directions the at any time so that you become an expert!
WITHIN THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM APP
When your teacher posts an assignment in Google Classroom and you are able to complete it without leaving the Google Classroom App:
Go to the Your Work area within the assignment.
Tap Mark as Done.
Tap Turn in.
PULL ASSIGNMENT IN TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Use this method for when your assignment is:
in Google Drive.
in the Photos App
a link to a web site
a screen shot
you want to use the camera to turn in a photo of some work you have done
Here is how to pull in your attachment:
Go to the Your Work area within the assignment.
Tap Add Attachments.
Tap the icon that represents where your work is. Click here to see what the options look like.
Tap the item you want to turn in and wait for it to upload to Google Classroom.
Repeat steps 1 - 5 if you have more than one thing to turn in.
Tap Turn In.
SEND AN ASSIGNMENT TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM FROM ANOTHER APP
Sometimes it may make sense to send an assignment to Google Classroom. You may choose to do this if you were using an app like Notability, Explain Everything, or iMovie.
From the app where you are working, look for an icon for sending or sharing. It will look like one of these, over there --->
Review any options that show up on the screen, if any. It is usually OK to leave options as they are.
Locate the Google Classroom App icon in the list. Scroll to the right and tap More if Classroom is not in the list.
When the "Share to Classroom" screen appears, Tap the name of the class that is showing. Don't worry that it is not the right class. A list of all classes will now show up.
Tap the class you are working on.
Tap Attach to assignment.
Tap the name of the assignment you are working on and wait for the assignment to upload.
Add any private comments for the teacher and then tap Turn In.
A FEW NOTES ABOUT TURNING STUFF IN
You can do this! Depending on exactly what you've created, the instructions for turning in may vary slightly. By reviewing the three turn in methods above and carefully reading each screen on your iPad, it is very likely that you will figure it out no matter what!
Double check that your work is attached and complete before turning in. When blank assignments are turned in, they will be promptly retuned as "not done", so double check that all your work completed and attached before tapping that "turn in" button.
Make sure to tap "TURN IN"! A common reason for late and missing work is that the "TURN IN" button has not been tapped. Once you finish your assignment, double-check that you have turned it in. Note that "Mark as Done" is not the same as "Turn in".
When your teacher has returned the assignment, a notification goes to your email and your iPad screen. The notification will remind you to visit the assignment, read comments, or see your grade.
Here is the expected procedure for when work is returned to you:
Go to the Classwork area in Google Classroom
Look at the Your Work area at the bottom of the screen to see if there is a Grade and/or teacher comments (see example below)
Read comments carefully. The comments will tell you what to do next.
You may be asked a question or to reply with your own comment.
You may be asked to revise your assignment and turn it in again.
Your teacher may have left feedback that will be helpful or encouraging.
