Building Resilient Families by promoting Positive Mental and Physical Health
Families across Alberta are changing their routines and we all need to
take steps to stay healthy at home. Dealing with this change can be
stressful.
Routines can help parents and their children feel calmer and more
comfortable. Consistency and structure are calming during times of
stress. Take time with your family to bring some structure to your days
and develop a routine. Below is a sample daily schedule to help you
get started.
Triple P Parenting sessions have gone virtual
The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program® helps parents and carers focus on children’s and teenagers' emotional wellbeing and development, even in times of stress and uncertainty.
Triple P Online and Teen Triple P Online are interactive programs that cover a wide range of positive parenting tips and strategies, and the new COVID-19 module helps parents stay calm, learn how to respond to children’s or teenagers' anxiety, and encourage resilience and coping skills during this time. There are also worksheets and videos on handling common issues and supporting children's and teenagers' development.
Mental Wellness Moment
The winter break will be understandably hard as many students, families, staff, and system leaders in Alberta enter a four-week circuit break in response to COVID-19. Being away from loved ones and family members can heighten the number of people who suffer mental health issues. In support, Alberta Health Services is promoting “Mental Wellness Moment”, a YouTube series with Dr. Nicholas Mitchell, AHS medical director, Addiction and Mental Health. The collection of 25 videos are under three-minutes each and cover a wide-range of topics such as social isolation, household tensions, loneliness, managing cravings, and self-care.
Message to parents from Elmo's dad:
Be kind to yourselves!
